Reverse Engineering / Account Security Question

I have to say, I am really upset about this god mode hack, as well as any reverse engineering of the SL client. Both are in violation of the TOS, and could be considered hacking.

Things like the llSetPayPrice bug are client side, not server side, and I am worried that other options are as well. For example, the "map anyone" feature of the god mode hack.

Another frightening consideration is how can anyone be sure that a 3rd party viewer won't steal account information which could be later used for theft of inventory or L$/USD?

There are too many dangers in allowing open-sourcing the SL client, or allowing reverse engineering of it, for me to feel safe with "all the admin stuff is server side". What steps will Linden Labs be taking to stop the hacking of the SL viewer?

During this time, Lindens like Phoenix and Brent have been doing thorough internal testing to root out these concerns. There've been a number of untrue distortions going around which confuse the actual issues we do want to explain more about here.



To be absolutely clear on this, we're aware of it and it will hopefully be fixed ASAP. Yes, part of it is to discourage stalking behavior--privacy fears always come up.

In response to all the questions that've come up about this, I'm going to communicate that it'd be a good idea to have more accessible info clarifying our views. Phoenix knows a lot about this so I'll certainly be inquiring within.
