"Share my desktop"

The conferencing software I've used at work has a "share my desktop" feature that allows the host to send a view of their desktop.

Is a "share my desktop" feature in the works?

When I first saw SL, I saw it's potential for training and conferencing and now I see the Linden fellowship.

Is it possible to "share my desktop" on a texture like Quicktime movies do?

I thought I saw somewhere a plan to port a browser into SL. Is this in the works? MS does sometimes place terminal windows online that are reachable through a browser.

Thank you for you response.

That would be really nice! YES, it's in the works, you may want to read more about uBrowser insofar as HTML inworld goes, and do lots of forum searches to get more info on the topic. There are lots of gems all over.

I have seen streaming video experiments before in which one person broadcasted their SL display over streaming video and others watched in a manner similar to what you describe. Trimda Hedges showed me early on, when QuickTime was first available inworld. A problem was latency (the delay in time involved), but it was very fun! Sort of like having an "inworld webcam".

We want to help enable future collaboration, so these and more options will be explored. :)
