I... really hate to ring this bell again. Because it really seems like I'm ringing it too much --

.. The registration changes, we all know, are going to cause a large influx of folks, with a lot less verification going on, and a lot less 'stake' in making, essentially, a griefing account.

Folks who were banned at the credit-card level but have a new IP or new machine now will be making their way back into the fray for "good times" at the expense of others.

Just this week we've had to deal with three new members of the "Ten Attack Club", folks who hit us night after night and just seem to have AR's fall off of them like water off of a duck's back. Yeah, they're "land banned" but.. so what...

It's just that:

-- if we thought griefing issues were bad now..

-- if we thought that there were no ability for us on the mainland to do ANYTHING about griefing now ...

-- if the 40m ban and the 50 person ban list were ineffective up until now...

... I just can't wait to see what these new registration changes will bring. I'm almost ready to just throw up my hands and give up... Torley said:

As for griefing concerns, we're going to be watching what happens. All of this is subject to change and we'll adjust accordingly--just as we have historically.

... Except that isn't true. Historically, things have not been adjusted. That's just the point.

Yeah, I'm saying it again. I know, it's an old din, a constant drone: but we, as in mainland operations, have not had ANYTHING "adjusted" in regards to being able to do ANYTHING about griefers since v1.0...

If "watching what happens" mean seeing areas like Luskwood get absolutely pummeled with hundreds of deformed and lewdly named alts, I suppose our "11:00 Dinner Theatre" nightly griefing hits are about to get much more lengthy and "entertaining" to those watching.

From: Jeska Linden (in Mentor meeting)
Jeska Linden: We should still handle those who violate the Community Standards in the same way we always have. Abuse reporting, muting, banning from land, etc.

.. except that ban, still. still. does. not. do. anything. to deter griefers. or keep them away. it does NOTHING. We're coming up on three years of hard, tired administrative mainland experience - trust me, we're experts on the fact that the 40m 'symbolic ban' does nothing to deter griefers.

Things are about to get much worse for us on the mainland. We still don't have *anything* that we can use to keep up, or keep our heads above water.

I'm to the point of begging you guys now: PLEASE? Can we -please- get some real motion on continued viability of the mainland by not having, basically, programatically enforced anarchy?

I can only speak for the areas I operate: but right now we're overseeing Lusk, Perry, and Clara - three sims contiguously, which get some of the highest traffic of a non-Mature area (green dots make a great target) on the grid.

I know this reiteration may be annoying but that's because it is long overdue and after today's registration changes, we're gonna be stuck acting as the proving grounds for the worst side of the up and coming influx.

Please - this is important ... we need *something* ... and I still cannot see how any improved tools/specific bans/realistic banheight on the mainland would inconvenience or detract from anyone but griefers.

Please consider this? I realize this could be construed as a 'nag' --- and I feel that i'm even putting myself at risk for bringing it up again...

But it isnt any less pertinent -- it's moreso now.

Hey Michi, all points taken--just like before. We've got your words saved here, just like your previous posts.

Sorry for any confusion; I realize I worded that too generally. I specifically meant adaptations to the join process, echoing what Chris Linden said:

From: Chris Linden
For the next few days please don’t be surprised if you see either the old registration form or the new form. While we investigate early results of the new registration system we will likely be tuning it off, updating it, and turning it back on throughout the next few days.

CONTEXT

And I reiterate this in no way limits our understanding of addressing "soreteeth" which haven't been fixed in a long time.
