How important is it?

With regard to the presence issue that is keeping the grid down this evening, is there some other problem beside not being able to see in a flash if Sally or Joe are online atm that makes it imperitive that it be fixed immediately instead of in the morning? Sincere question. Thanks.

Hi Kiff (like the Futurama character?)... certainly (from previous experience), one of the major problems is a social one: people get very, very upset when they can't see their friends. It doesn't sound like a big deal to some, but it is: it results in a massive torrential downpour of questions to Live Help and postings to the forums, and basically, all-out confusion that swamps our inworld frontline Lindens like Liaisons, preventing them from handling other things that need help like serious griefings.

There are a whole lot of side effects too, like organization of events thrown into disarray, friends not being able to TP to meet each other because they appear offline, objects not responding as requested 'cuz--hey! It thinks you're not on!--and so on and soforth. A real avalanche.

As you know, this got fixed:
