You could just try to talk some island rental business owners to see how things work. renters cant buy island parcel if they dont have premium accounts. Plus residents are not allowed to join or subdivide group owned private sim parcels anymore. And it is a pain now to check how much sqm a parcel is and how many prims because they are at two different menus. Plus it is harder now to tell renters how to and why to create groups for land etc etc.
We were expecting things to be easier with this new update for island rental business owners.

Some of what you mention are actually bugs that we want to fix! Kelly Linden is actually working on making a regional setting for subdividing/joining parcels so you can have that as an option. This comes in response to feedback like yours!

[UPDATE] Just heard good word Kelly completed the aforementioned internally. Look for it in a future release of Second Life, coming soon.
