I've seen Stargate Content. I've seen Star Wars and War of the Worlds content. I've even seen Star Trek Content that was not specific to any particular ship or object. Did these people get permission to create this content from copyright holders?

Is any of this content a violation of copyright law?
How do you check to make sure someone has permission?
What if one person from an organization raises objection even if permission was given?

Can copy written content be created if it is not sold?

What are the TOS interpretations on all this?

Thank you for your time.

About your questions--simply, in these instances, it's best to contact the original copyright holder and let them know we comply with the DMCA. Since they own the rights, they will know best, in addition to having further legal info about the intellectual property in question, could provide further details on a case-by-case basis. You could also send them photos or other materials if you want showing what you believe is copyright infringement, and as soon as they send in the notification file with all the details and it's verified, the appropriate content in Second Life will be removed.

Our policy is available on the Digital Millennium Copyright Act page.
