Shaky issue with lifetime users and littered land.

While Second Life has had users who have existed since back in the times of beta, some who have gained the rare "lifetime account" and land associated with that account, some of those users have long since left the Grid never to return.

The problem is that in the land that they left behind, they've obviously built on that land, and left their imprint on the Grid, but other users also have built on that land, and filled it with garbage. Offline messages go unanswered (expired email address?) and the sim owners can't go ripping up property without the land owner's permission out of common courtesy.

Pardon if this sounds like a rant, but can't something be done to land/parcels of long-gone users that have been turned into garbage dumping grounds? One parcel in the sim, Lusk, for example has been used for a looping slideshow for well over half a year now, another parcel in a nearby sim has been unused since before I started here a year ago. Couldn't they be treated like "Protected Land" on the mainland?

Thornne, it's difficult on a couple fronts: one of them is Second Life can be so transient, but we have some really nice historical builds from Lifetime Residents which have long departed and haven't come back in ages. However, the flipside to that is when litter is left around and the owner doesn't come 'round to clean it up.

The problem here is a fair policy would have to apply to all--what if, say, someone didn't like a particular beautiful build (art is subjective) and wanted to get rid of it? So the simplest way comes back to the landowner's rights. As per our Lifetime agreement, it's theirs... for life, Second Life!

While dating back a long time, and the frustration that comes with lack of communication, there are still options. You could file an abuse report on a specific parcel if it violates the Community Standards. For example, if particle spammers have been strewn about and encroach into other parcels--that likely is Disturbing the Peace.

Best of hope.
