Why is everything a vote?

It's virtually impossible to get enough people to agree on anything round here, let alone get 500 votes together for a proposal to get an 'official comment'.

Why can't some of the things suggested simply be put in the queue to be done if they sound like something useful, instead of putting them off until a vote gets sufficient weight behind it, especially if it's something already in existance, like my suggestion for the main grid having the "account activity log" like the teen grid has.

The vote system is cumbersome, hardly read, inefficient and ineffectual. Can't some of the simple obvious things bypass that if a sufficient case is put forward when it's asked in Answers?

No, I am not going to put this to a vote :D

But, not everything's a vote. :)

The Feature Voting Tool is just that, a tool. I've seen numerous proposals get past 500+ votes. Sometimes people get discouraged but then I see other Resis do great and tremendous things which get change implemented. Time and time again, I can count it out on a long list (and have done partials before).

A vote helps formalize Resident interest. Some things do get put in the queue AND appear on the Feature Voting Tool, and I cross-reference them. I spend a lot of time doing that. It's also context-sensitive, so yes, some of the "little things" don't need a big grandesque statement, but nevertheless, every bit of encouraging feedback helps from as many Resis as possible. Anyone who remembers wanting a "Show HUD objects in snapshot" checkbox and remembers when "Force Sun" was in the Debug menu knows this!

I advocate an AND approach, not an OR one, and so that's what sort of excellence I recognize in the community. Some people say they really ReAlLy REALLY want a feature but then don't want to set up a vote proposal. I don't get that, because it's a clue to passion. Even if hardly anyone votes, it's still on record--and searchable. As opposed to things that get lost in the forums after being uttered... which is very sad.

Ultimately it's easy to dismiss a tool because it doesn't work for you. And it's true that some people feel cramped by the way a given tool operates. It reminds me of my techno music days when synthesizers would be blamed for making "bad music". You can argue it so many ways, but if you want a solution, then you shall find one. So even with those limitations, I have already seen many amazing things get done, and hope to see even more.

The more pillars of support you can stand on, the better. And you'll feel better knowing your fellow Residents of Second Life share your interest too.

Have a superfantastic day! :)
