Ok, I'll probably get slammed by many of the community's veterans for this, but here goes anyway.
Why doesn't LL charge for each P2P teleport on a sliding scale, the further you go, the more you pay, short distances could be free, TP'ing to a telehub could be free. The proceeds get split between the landowners in the sim the AV TP's to, or it gets paid to them based on dwell. (I like the former, why shouldn't you be compensated when you're idilic lake front vacation spot gets lagged by the Montana Sized night club that moves in next door?)
Before you spit out your coffee, hear me out...
First of all, if you want to get around with out paying, you can still do it, it just takes a few extra clicks. Most people will pay to TP directly to a store front or particular parcel, if it's cheap enough and they are in a hurry.
This revaluates the land near the telehubs, no reparations / money printed and given out.
It replaces dwell incentives, again, no money being printed and handed out. No camping chairs, because you don't care how long they stay, just that they come.
It seperates noobs from some of their hard earned $L stipend (Sense my sarcasm)
It would increase the use of vehicles - Good for the economy...
It would increase wondering while people look for what they didn't want to pay to TP directly to... (Ever been to a retail store? They make a science out of putting impulse buy items in your path)
It would return (or create, I don't know if there ever was one, but I get the sense from the forums that pre-p2p there was) a sense of geography and neighborhood to SL.
I suggest $1L to cross less than 3 sims, $3L for up to 10 sim crossings, and $5L for over 10, free to TP within a sim.
This is just an idea I thought worth discussing, I'm not married to it and expect quite a few reasons it wouldn't work.
P2P is a convenience, it should cost to use it, don't you think?
