An order for an Openspace consists of 4 low prim regions for the same price as a normal Private Island - so USD$1250 initial fee followed by USD$195 per month thereafter. You cannot buy 2 or 6. They come in sets of four per order.

if the above is true why would any one order open space and pay the same as any other private island in the initial fee and monthly fee.
when you could order a "normal" private island and get 15000 prims and still have open space if you wanted.

unless i am reading this wrong then i apologize
the original announcement is here

I think this falls under the "maybe there is someone who wants to buy something that costs us no differently to provide but we won't know unless we offer it" category.

I can imagine someone wanting - say - a racing sim-quad which needs few prims and probably has better sim-to-sim crossovers than non-conjoined sims.

Just guessing...

alot of people would like water sims surrounding thier normal islands, or forests and such, this is perfect for those reasons... boating, or even roads or race tracks etc, think of the possibilities :P

An "OpenSpace" sim package consists of 4 sims comprising 262.144 sqm. You pay 1.250 (plus 195 USD/month) for 4 times the area of a normal sim (at the same price) but with only half the prim capacity. You get a prim allowance of 7.500 prims for all 4 sims taken together (1875 per sim).

All in all it is nothing more than a different balance between land area and prims. Want to build a club or a mall or a complicated building? Buy a classic sim. Want some wide open space and don't need many prims? Buy a package of 4 OpenSpace sims.

If you want to see, what one can do with sim, please have a look at the sims surrounding OTHERLAND. There are 4 High Area (low prims) around OTHERLAND and a bunch of classic ones to the north. Its the balance between them that makes the OTHERLAND Archipelago so special. :)

ahhh thank you Dana i misunderstood the announcement

i was thinking US$1250 per sim

*slaps forehead*

and yes Sensual I was thinking the same thing it would be nice to have some open space around my own sims. I just could not fathom why they were charging US$1250 per sim but that money is for 4 open space Sims as Dana explained.

so my apologies are extended i Indeed read the announcement wrong.
