1-> An automobile company can hire ingame builders to produce exact 3D models of their product and can advertise them in game. 2-> An online book store can open a store/library in SL, and peoıple can read the books at this library or can buy them via L$ or paypal. This will create employement opportunities too. 3-> A travel agency can buy sims and can hire ingame builders-terraformers to create exact copy of RL touristic areas. And can advertise them to sell RL travels. ....................... Please add more to the list.
When will this happen? Sooner than very soon. Higher population in SL will reduce advertisement cost per person for the companies. RL business wont damage to SL, they will try to make it better, because it will be their enviroment too. Is LL ready for BIGGER changes?

I love your enthusiasm for making SL flourish although I don't think your energy is pointing in the right direction. This is only my opinion of course but I would not want to see more RL advertising in SL. I get enough advertising in my life to make me a cynical and I don't want any more in my Second Life. Besides, AutoCAD technicians already spend enough time endlessly modeling concept cars and parts. Spending money on modelers in SL building blocks would be of little use. Being from Motown (Detroit) I don't want to see the car companies wasting any more money on things other than building the best cars they can. As far as books go, many companies have given up on the digital book idea because people simply don’t prefer their books in digital text. I personally don't have much opinion on the matter (I read plenty in both bound books and digital files) but the population still prefers to read physical print by 10 to 1. Although whole books might not be feasible in the near future, amateur fiction, fan fiction, poetry and short stories from struggling authors would probably do quite well with an SL distribution. Most of their work is created in word processors, anyways and their market value would be small enough to legitimize a L$ sale. For the time being, the cost of sims and time to design a sim in any great detail are very prohibitive to any sort of real world example. Allot of builders here in SL are left feeling very disappointed when they set out on the task to simulate RL objects and settings. After that, there's the question of value. To what sales value would a diorama of a vacation spot help sell trips to a particular destination? Most trips are planned on price and quality of accommodations. There isn't much that can be conveyed through sim work as far as feel or a sense of trust in your trip outside of _this is a tropical place_ and _this is a mountain retreat (look see, it's up high)_ It needs mentioning that earning an honest living building and terraforming in SL would mean charging at the very least, $20 USD per hour and investing in 300 man-hour projects. This might seem high and you might be able to find people wanting a chance to try it for free, but the hours will drag on as the project grows and the quality of work will most likely slip after setting up the 7th sim with no profit in sight. It's nice to see a fellow avie that has the drive I do to attempt some real success here in SL, but it's something that requires a good deal of idea throwing. Keep up the suggestions ~Lefty

I think this is a great idea that will happen as soon as SL scales up to millions of visitors.

Second Hand Bookshop

This is a small-scale idea but an idea nonetheless. It occurred to me while looking at my groaning bookshelves and thinking "I really need to cull a few of these.. to make space for more books!" How about a Second Hand Bookshop in SL selling the original copies in RL? Here's how I'd anticipate it working. The Bookshop has a virtual copy of the book (maybe just the cover, index and the blurb) for sale. Buyer pays for the RL book in L$ and supplies RL address for delivery on a notecard to the owner. Owner despatches book by regular mail. There are some issues to consider of course! The price would look high in SL terms (5-10 000L$ as a rough guess) to cover postage and as a realistic alternative to eBay. In addition many people are wary of revealing RL info to strangers. And the cost of postage will vary depending on the customer's RL location so the owner will have to decide whether to use a set of rates or a standard price for everyone. And, and, and.... But it sounds doable and, to the best of my knowledge and a quick search inworld, I don't know of anyone else doing this. Hmmmm, time to clear some space... Anyone interested in a second hand copy of 'Weight Training for Dummies'?

I would think SL based music, video game and book stores that connect with outside websites for the actual sale would make a lot of sense. The Amazon.com sim or sims for instance with catalogues and links out to their actual website for purchase. Imagine SL based author readings

No travel agency would pay for a sim to advertise a destination. It's effectively free advertising for every other travel agency worldwide that wants to send people there too. Hotels wouldn't either, for similar competition reasons. About the only group that migt is a government agency responsible for developing local tourism. And sims are still overpriced for this purpose.

I direct your attrention to the Dublin Sim. an exact replica of the gafton street, temple bar, trinty college and st. stevens greens sections of Dublin. Not a diaramabut functioning high end sim that is extremly immersive and interactive and mean to encourage tourism and an intrest in irish culture. And no its not paid for by a travel agency that thinking is on the right track but off the mark.

SecondLife would be a great place for community planners to present their community plans to their constituents.
People in the community could log in (quick download) and fly around new plans and even interact with community planners to leave their feedback.

I'd like to point out that if you search for "Global Travel" in Find and go to the item named "Catt's Creations / Global Travel", you will find a RL travel agency doing business in SL. It works by posting signs on the wall. If you click them, you're taken to a page on the travel agency's website.
This seems like a very simple way to pursue RL business interests in SL. Perhaps a start of something grander. (It's not my store. I'm just the landlord.)
