Is the Linden loosing value because we've been expecting it too these last few months? Has all the talk of an impending downturn acted as a self-fullfilling prophesy? We posters seem very keen to identify the cause. Why not just take the rap ourselves?
Seriously, if we were able to pin down a tangible effect, what are the chances we could do anything to correct it?

Seriously, if we were able to pin down a tangible effect, what are the chances we could do anything to correct it? The majority of SL residents don't seem to bother with the forums. On the other hand many residents do buy and sell the L. Do the chicken little's of the forums effect the market value of the L? Probably not.

Sunspots. Some <genreric sports team> took a surprise loss. People are concerned about some situation somewhere. The president frowned. FooBar earnings are expected to be announced to be down this quarter People are profit-taking prior to <holiday>

Well I'm gonna start predicting that the Linden will rise notably during the early days of September. If it does, I'll be a genius and everyone will want to read my book. If it doesn't, I'll cite a consipiracy and everybody will want to read my book. If that doesn't work, I'll punch out somebody that interviews me about the failure of my book. Then, when I get out of jail, everybody will want to read that book.
Yeah this is a plan.

Yeah this is a plan. Khamon your post reminds me of a scam I read about some years ago. I guess some guys sent out letters to many wealthy investor types. They told half that XYZ stocks would rise, and they told half that XYZ would fall. When XYZ rose they sent letters to the half that they told it would and told half of them that XYZ would again rise and they told the other half of them that XYZ would fall. You get the picture... They did this over and over till they had a small pool of people who absolutely believed what these guys said and those people invested big. I guess the guys just ran away with the money or something, I don't recall. I do recall that they were caught and sent to prison. Anyway, there is alot of speculation on the value of the L. Developers are feeling the crunch, land barons are for sure feeling it, and the average resident is able to buy the L for ever lower costs. YAY! Too bad inflation kicks in and the value of the L is becoming garbage. Thankfully there is a glut in the market of STUFF. Clothes, toys, vehicles, weapons, whatever are almost all over produced and cheap knockoffs of almost anything can be found. This is good for the noob or casual player. They can spend little and have a great time. Now at the same time the developers of all that good stuff are hurting. They don't make as much as they would like in order to justify making things. So they don't make more things. They don't invest in their own future or enhance their products to keep up with changing times. Produce better stuff and people will pay for it. The L will rise. The L is based on what a L can get you, if you can only get junk for your L's, then the L is worth junk. Who's fault is it that the L is falling? It's obviously all your fault Khamon for making predictions on the forums. Duh.

I don't think it's as simple as 'taking the rap ourselves', but the people who are most concerned with the economy most definitely are reading tese boards. If they are smart anyway. And if the people buying and selling $L read these boards, then it is only logical that the posts they read will have some sort of impact. We can, however, make conjecture and opine on the economy and cause it to shift one way or the other, but we aren't going to chage reality. All of the things that effect the economy continue to do so. Forum posts are but one factor of many.
