All poetic aspirations aside... ;) I've been contemplating the separation between what Philip says about SL economy, and what is actually going on inside the game.

He mentions in several interviews and articles that I have researched, about folks making a RL living from this game. And if not that, how people are building successful businesses and living well in-game as well.

OK Cool. One fly in the ointment. Buy/Sell activities got yanked from the most strong place folks can reach everyone: the ingame listings of events.

I have a proposal to find a middle ground. It focuses on helping newcomers to the game, but I think my proposal is also valid from an economic standpoint.

Philip wants to rule the world. In order to do that, you need to have new folks coming in and sticking around, being successful in whatever their endeavors might be, and that equals growth, if I am not mistaken.

Check out THIS THREAD please. There is a lot to read, I DO go into serious detail on my proposal. Some of the discomfort that we've all been experiencing from rule breaking event postings, lack of attendance to events, lack of quality events and for the new entrepreneurs, serious difficulties in getting themselves on the map, have all stemmed from the original changes in Events/Announcements, in my view.

My proposal outlines a win-win situation for everyone concerned and also clears up this shyness about the fact that like it or not, SL is a bustling economic place, and brings support to both the buyer and the seller, new and old alike.

Ty for listening :)

Buy/Sell activities should NEVER have been on the events list in the first place and were only sneaked on though a loophole. The very idea of allowing them again makes me sick to the stomach.

Strongly seconded.
I personally was glad when those notices went. 'Uh, this hour we have 3 free money events, something at a club. A casino something-or-other. A mall opening...' - definetely NOT what you want new users to have to deal with.

Stop calling SL a game and you may well find an increase in consumer confidence. You refer to Philips statements about the economy and yet you ignor the fact that Philip NEVER calls SL a game... If you want games go play Super Mario or something. If you want a thriving economy, then take it seriously...

As a new player and new to business, I find this situation incredibly frustrating. There's no place to post notices except on the forums, and the notices get pushed down quickly by other ads. Only 5 percent of players look at the outside web page forums.

Why can't there simply be a separate list on the "finds" that has classified? I simply don't understand why all the commercial ads can't be on a separate list. After all, land sales are commercial, and they're inside the game -- in spades. Land sales often benefit the Lindens more than anything else, so naturally they're eager to have them inside the game, but they really should start thinking about the players' economy, too, and have a notice board for the players other types of economic activity. So just make a separate list for all other commercial.

And frankly, trying to get attention for any kind of serious or high-quality event or artistic performance is very hard because you are posting in a huge clutter of sexay avatar spitting money ball ads which are thinly disguised commercial adds anyway.

Like the yellow pages problem, the lack of classifieds on a daily in-game list is a serious hindrance. And I'm thinking there are probably only player-based solutions to these problems because LL doesn't seem interested.

I agree. There needs to be an ingame "yellow pages", modified, updated, and made to fit.

They're actually working on an in game search tool for products and services folks.

Anyone forces sales events back onto events, and I'll hurt 'em but good.

Profoky,

Check out http://www.secondserver.net/index.php. It is basically a 'classifieds' website. Maybe they'll add services or something as well.

I thought this at first, especially when Cory mentioned it, but I find this less likely all the time.

SL understands that if they co-opt the efforts of those who build for SL, then they will simply discourage any future innovation.

Also, Cory has recently posted "just enough connectivity" which my understanding is that he realises that it is his job to just innovate enough to get people together and let them build out the rest.

Hi Amazon :)

I dont condsider SL to be a game no matter what phrase I happen to toss out at the time. If I did, why would I bother putting so much time and energy into a proposal like I did?

It is interesting what people will focus on when they read a post. Check out my proposal - its pretty serious, and doesn't mention mario at all, so you might like it. Ty for the suggestion. But the last time I played mario was just after they invented the gameboy. Nice gadget that, I'd bought it for my son, and played a few rounds with him.
