There's been a lot of talk in this forum recently about doing away with stripends. The proponents say this would stem inflation and decreased value of the $L.

It doesn't matter to them that this would leave the vast number of SLians broke. Actually, I take that back; It does matter to them, it matters a great deal. Although they mask their concerns behind a curtain of benevalance for the whole of SL, their real goals are somewhat different I believe.

Those who've been in SL since the Great Change of 1.1 will remember the very same arguments from the land barons. They argued that LL should stop flooding the market with land. They said the more land LL created, the less it was worth. They used the same frame of reference, as if this was a concern for SL and SLians best interest.

It was not then, and it is not now!

The land barons wanted to curtail the release of land for no other purpose than to control the land market with an iron fist allowing them to charge WHATEVER they wanted! Many reading this will not remember the days of $20 or more per m2, but it happened then and it can happen again. It can also happen to the supply or $L if LL were to listen to these would be $L barons and cut off the stripend.

Do not be fooled!

Their only concern is that LL cut off the stripend so they can quickly buy out the market, raise the price astronomically and sell them back to the now broke majority of SL citizens. They want nothing more than to make a quick buck by controlling yet another market.

Do not become complacent on this issue.

On our side, luckily enough, is the fact that the loudest voices on this issue tend to be condescending idiots :)

Maybe that is that agenda, maybe not. Maybe they sincerely believe what they say, and just colour it with a lot of of rhetoric.
Maybe they could gain a stranglehold on the supply of $L, and drive the price up.
Supply is only one side of the equation though. If the price is too high for too long, and people can no longer justify that expense for their entertainment/business/whatever they like SL for, it will have an impact on demand. Less people in SL, decreased demand for $L, the prices will start to drop. Ultimately the market determines what price it can bear, even if there's rough patches along the way.
If it happened, you already have a weapon. Just vote with your $.
Either ways, I wouldn't worry too much, because I don't think anyone is fooled.

its fun teasing most of them, I dont worry about them. It's all about "Me Me" and never take into consideration how the schemes would never work and destroy SL. It's all about a quick buck :) No work involved just a quick buck.
