Grace Periods

I looked around the forums and the wiki, but I find the existing documentation on this a little thin: I'm trying to understand the land and tier grace periods.

For example, assume a group owns land, and has the donated tier to cover it. Now if a member pulls their tier from the group, the group has some grace period to get new tier donated before the land it owns is reverted to LL.

What I'm looking to understand is the length of time and situations in which land can be transferred and help without the tier. This isn't because I want to game the system - only that I have twice now been in a situation where I had just enough tier and land and I needed to move it to or from a group and I was scared to. In the past I 'borrowed' the extra tier of a dear friend as I was too scared to do this.

Here are the situations I can think of:

1) You buy land for a group, but it doesn't yet have the tier. (I'm not sure this is even possible.) How long do you have to get the tier donated?

2) A group has land and the tier, but then the tier is pulled by a member. How long does the group have to either get new tier donated, or to sell the land.

3) An AV buys land but doesn't have the tier. (This is possible). How long do you have to tier up? (I've seen references to both 48 hours in the wiki and 24 hours from personal accounts.) Can you satisfy the tier by freeing up other tier from other land you own? Can you satisfy the tier by pulling tier from a group? (One forum thread says no and that while it will all act happy, in 24 hours the land will be released.)

Others? If we get the definitive scoop on all this, I promise to write it all up in the wiki.

If you buy land and don't have enough tier you have 24 hours to either 'tier up' or gain more free tier space by either releasing other land or returning tier you donated to a group. While you do not have the tier, the newly purchased land is 'on hold'. Once you have the tier you can then confirm the land purchase and it is yours. You must remember to confirm the purchase else the land will be released.

If you remove tier donation from a group resulting in not enough tier to support the land then you have (I believe) 24 hours to replace the tier, though I have heard it can be up to 7 days. The main difference here is that all the group land will still work as normal, but after the grace period expires the excess land will be released. I have no idea what metric the system uses to decide which land is released.

If you buy land direct for a group without enough tier then the same rules apply as if you'd removed tier from the group.

We have a twenty-four hour to teir up as individuals. The system will not allow you to purchase land for a group unless enough tier is already committed. The grace period only works for a group that looses tier after already owning the land.

If 7 days, then you could get a ~7/37 or ~18% reduction in total tier costs. One week after the end of the month, just tier down and then tier up at the end of the month on another avatar.

Eg

Week 1 - Av 1
Week 2 - Av 1
Week 3 - Av 1
Week 4 - Av 1
Week 5 - Tier to 0
Week 6 - Av 2
Week 7 - Av 2
Week 8 - Av 2
Week 8 - Av 2
Week 10 - Tier to 0
Week 11 - Av 1
Week 12 - Av 1
Week 13 - Av 1
Week 14 - Av 1
Week 15 - Tier to 0
etc

For example, rather than paying 200$ per month, you could be paying $160 per month for a sim.

Add the 10% group on top of that, and that comes to $140 per month?

Don't forget to tier back up though. Heh.

Come on blaze, you should know by now that end of month tier charge is based on your maximum tier use during the month, not the specific amount you hold at the time of billing...

Read my post again, and I think you'll find I accoutned for that.

The point is, you maintain tier for one month. Skip a week, and then tier back up for a month.

The discount is not 7/31 but rather 7/38

The billing period is calendar monthly. Even if the grace period were 3 weeks long you'd still have to hold the tier at some point during the billing period, hence you would be charged.

Calendar monthly? So if you tier up 2 days before the end of the month, you have to pay for a full month?

Yikes, didn't realise that. Youch. I should time my tiering better..

The trick is to check your account history to find the exact date they bill you on, then if you need to tier down you can keep the land right up to the last day to get the most value for money...

Also if you need to tier up, do it the day after your billing date for the same reason.
