Hi,
I was trying to figure out how the estimated proceeds in the LindeX are calculated, especially where the rounding goes on and where the 3,5% while selling Lindens are subtracted.
Thanks for any help

Ps.: An official response would be greatly be appreciated

Ps.: An official response would be greatly be appreciated This is in no way "official" but does not seem to need mathematical wizardy either. I just tried out selling 10,000 L$ at 278. The estimated proceeds are 34.71US$. This is exactly what Excel tells me when I try out the simple formula est. proceeds = amount L$/exchange rate * 96.5%

Take for Example 1500 L$, exchangerate of 272 should give 5,321691.... but gives 5,31 Why? I know its not much and for sufficiently large amounts of Lindens, nobody cares, but i care for every single percentage of a linden lost in unexplained formulas

L = Amount of Linden Dollars you are selling. X = Exchange rate. D = Dollar value. L/(1.035X) = D For example. X= 275. Thanks to the commission, you have to pay an exchange rate of (1.035)275 = 284.625. Likewise, if X = 270, you have to pay an exchange rate of (1.035)270 = 279.45. If you have 10,000L, and sell at 275: 10,000/(1.035)(275) = $35.13.

Thank you for you version, it would instead of 5.32169 (1500/272*0.965) leave me with 5.32822 (1500/(1.035*272)) and still not 5.31 I think this at least shows that there is some difficulty in guessing the formula MfG No Bishop Ps.: If anybody has any other ideas, be welcome, post them even if they don't fit

I have a question as well, and anybody who has sold L and received funds via their business/premier paypal account can answer; but before that, I'll answer Bishop's question first.
1500/272 = $5.5147 Naturally LL will rounddown to 5.51 because more money for them.
$5.51 * 3.5% fee = 0.1929 Again LL will roundup to .20 because more money for them.
5.51 - .20 = 5.31 which gets your 5.31 which you got.
Now to my question, its more of a paypal question: For a business/premier paypal account, do you still get charged the 2.9% + .3 commission for receiving funds from sl? I know sl uses mass pay and I thought I read somewhere receiving mass pay was free. Is it free as in no extra special charge when compared to a normal pay receivable and still charged 2.9% + .3; or free as you get charged no commissions at all and therefore better to to receive a mass payment rather then a non mass payment.

$5.51 * 3.5% fee = 0.1929 Again LL will roundup to .20 because more money for them. Nothing mysterious or sinister going on here. It seems the LindeX is not "rounding" but simply "calculating with a precision of cents". (You can check out the actual formula being used in the source code of the HTML page.) 1500L$/272 = 5.514705882 US$ 96,5% * 5.51 = 5.31715 US$ Obviously this will lead to 0.01 US$ less (compared to "rounding" of the calculations result only once) being payed out to residents in nearly 50% of transactions. If they did not do this, they would get a little less then 3.5% comission in some deals.

Hi, trying out your two answers I have found that left Cult's has a small mistage for example in the range of 2176 to 2178 where it would give me 7.71 instead of LL which gives me 7.72 (more money Not finished with my tests though MfG No Bishop

As I mentioned, the formula used for calculation can be checked out in the sourcecode of the page (its in JavaScript). You can find out simply by right clicking on the page. The "Mfg" leads me to suspect we have a fellow German here?

Damn, i overread that and i didn't think about if myself, thats a real shame... Thanks, Pham, for the tip though. (No, no German, Austrian)
If anybody of you is interrested in a Mathematica Notebook calculating the No Loss trough Precision exchange Amounts, please send me an IM in Game. Though I'll probably make an Applet calculating it and put it up somewhere. (I love shooting with Battleships at Crows)
Thanks for all the Help!

The estimator always rounds down. The amount you receive is not always what the estimator estimates. I have found that most of the time it is within 1 cent of what you get. I have always found the amount you get is more then the estimator if it is off.
