Advertising Under Land Sales

I believe the land sales ads are being abused. There are too many listings for very small pieces at outrages prices. Of the 56 highest priced per meter listings (16m for 999,999,999) 52 are by just two people and 1 from another person who I believe are using the listings for free advertising. What can be done to curb this kind of abuse?

If there are only 3 people involved, I'd suggest reporting them to abuse.

If we were to set an upper limit on pricing to discourage this behavior (which was suggested by someone else) what should that upper limit be? Keep in mind that if we set it at say, L$20/m2, that would mean no one could sell land for that amount. Is that ok?

You can give me some feedback here.

I think this method would be just as effective and still allow higher priced sales if needed, Instead of disabling the sale, you disable the display in finder if the land is over a certain amount, wether you set that fixed or as a multiple of the average land price which means it wouldnt need maintainance.

The fact that it isnt being displayed in finder due to price limits but that it will still be buyable etc could be displayed in the new popup in 1.7 to confirm land is going on sale.

You can always not look at the highest listings too. Once you get higher than you will pay per meter, why are you still looking through listings. I agree the highest ones are probably people advertising. There are also people like me thouh, that will sell land they occupy if people pay high. I have a few peices that I use on a regular basis that I have set for higher than 12$L/meter. My figuring, is if someone wants to pay that much, they can have that peice of land. So how do you figure out who is genuinely advertising, and who just has a pipe dream that someone might come along and actually pay that much? Some people may think that there is the slightest possibility that others will pay that much.

Do the math.

L$999,999,999. That's L$1 shy of L$1 BILLION.

If somebody were actually to pay this, at today's L$ exchange rate, they'd have paid about US$370,000.

AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN.

Well I didn't think somebody would pay US$2000 for 5000 meters2. I know that the $L999,999,999 price isn't going to happend, doesn't mean it could be someone that just doesn't know what they are doing. Is it really abuse, if the person just doesn't understand how things work? I do think our 16 meter2 friend knows what they are doing, but I can see some people simply putting an outrageous price without ever doing the math. I wouldn't want to see people getting considered as abusive just for setting a price on their land. The only reason any of this has any advertising capability in the first place is the people are looking at L$999,999,999 land in the first place. Why are people even on that side of the list? Ignore them. It is not like land that expensive is a spot anybody should care to look at anyway.

I often look at land sales ordered by name so I can see a plot in a particular location. This puts contrived plots at the top, which most of these fake ads were - starting with non-alphabetical characters or spaces. Yesterday I visited several of these listed places. They were almost entirely from one person (group) and were merely to advertise events and services. I sent in ARs for the ones I saw but it's obvious from the list to whom most of the others belong.

I think there is only 250M L$ in the system at the moment.

An upper limit of 20 L$ / m is not a good idea. Just check the auctions, people have paid more than that.

Also, would 20 L$ really stop people from doing it? I mean, if I bought 16 m2 and then sold it for 20L$ / m2, I wouldn't be particularly sad.

Not only did I get free advertising, I also profited a handsome amount as well.

I think you need a "report spam" button on everything you make publically available to users that people can edit.

And then just take the top 5 offenders each week and publically ban them for a couple of days.

People will get the message soon enough.

I tried the name thing to check out what you were talking about. Found all my (Mature) plots grouped together. This will be more useful than you know. Anyway, found a tangent funny listing. It was buried between my listings with a stand out price of 937$L/meter2. Thought the description on the listing was funny. It says useful purchase. LOL:D

For a very thin diver with money to burn it could be ideal!
