Yes, that's correct, watch what you do in the edit box, watch the lag as it can cause problems while your in the edit box and by all means look who is around you! What gets me, I will name no names but will tell you that this person is a Mentor in SL, found a property for sale, set wrongly at 0 by SL, in a laggy situation. I might add and snatched it up and set it to group! Not just a 512 sqm property but over 5000 sqm, now wouldn't you think something was wrong with that picture.....and wouldn't you think a Mentor would know better?? Sounds like a land barron to me or an exploit!! So, watch your stuff folks...I now have this mentor banned from my Sim! A Mentor should have known better, should have had the decency to ask was it a mistake or not, but not this person, I think this person should be pulled from the Mentors list and from SecondLife for awhile! JMHO!! What is happening to the people in SL, they are pulling away from all good things and going to the bad!! Thanks for your time! And if this is not handled in a very fast and timely manner, I will release the name of the Mentor .

Uh, you mention being a mentor a lot. Let me tell you that being a mentor is zero indication of the nature of the person.
I've been griefed by mentors several times, and have seen them doing some pretty nasty stuff. Some of the most dispicable characters in SL have been and possibly still are mentors.
And if I were you, I wouldnt be releasing the name of the person in question. Contact the Lindens if you think there is a problem. Don't be dragging it into the forums, or you'll most likely get yourself suspended.

that's a pretty sad commentary on the SL front i'd say.......if SL is *hiring* mentors to teach and guide new members, and the mentors are of questionable ethics and standards, that doesn't give alot of hope for the future population. seems SL needs to be a little more selective in who they accept into such a responsible position, volunteer or not. after all...it's not alot different than if teachers with lack of knowledge and morals were hired into the school systems to guide our children.....and i certainly wouldn't accept that......would you? this situation is simply unacceptable! Tighten up Lindens!

Tighten up Lindens! Uh. These *hired* teachers aren't exactly paid a fortune to do it. They're volunteer residents. That doesnt excuse the ones being asshats, but then a lot of the people they try and teach are asshats, which is why it's hard to get new mentors who can be bothered.

Did SL Set this land to 0 or did you by hitting the wrong button in a laggy situation?
Hopefully this person will resolve the problem quickly. No need to jump to conclusions. I'd have picked up 5k for $0 lindens if I saw it as well. In a heartbeat lol thats a good deal. Chances are it was done by accident, but what if a person was getting rid of it and instead of releasing it to the Lindens put it at $0 to be nice?
Oh yeah I'd have snatched that bad boy up in a second.
But if someone messaged me I'd have given it back.

Sorry for the hijack, but color me curious. Are there any stories you can relate without naming names? Do you know if such incidents were reported and what the resolution was?

But if someone messaged me I'd have given it back. it was not done accidentally or intentionally....it was an sl screwup.....similar to the scenario where you put something down out of your inventory and find later that it's set for sale or that it was, and someone bought it! grrrr regardless.....most anyone would think something a lil odd about over 5k of land being set for sale at 0.......and yes, i'm sure most people prolly would have snatched it up before im'ing to question it. but not everyone is so ready to clear up a fiasco such as this when they're only out for themselves. *sigh* i'm the type who finds a simple article of clothing i buy has been set with full permissions and im's the designer to let them know in case it was a mistake. i guess not everyone was brought up with sound morals and ethics......i'm thankful i was.

jade, mentors are players, not employees... employees you interact with will have last name linden, and most likely be 'liason' tagged as their group.
Mentors are just other playes who agreed to host an event every so often in a public space. It says nothing about their character, or LL's

Mentors are just other playes who agreed to host an event every so often in a public space. It says nothing about their character, or LL's this will be my last post to this thread...but mentors are actually a lil more than hosts. here is the quote from sl's site: *Second Life Mentors is a group which emphasis is on helping the newcomer to Second Life. We are looking for new members to help, meet, greet and host events to welcome those newest to Second Life.* obviously it's hoped that all members have integrity but it's clear many do not....period...even those who make excuses for those who don't. at any rate....this issue has been resolved and the person in question proved to be one of the all too few with ethics and integrity.....and he readily agreed to rectify the situation. i hope none of you have this happen to you with one of the less than savory......but if you do, perhaps then you'll have a different view of things.... thank you to jordon jensen who was a huge help in this matter and did all possible to see the situation resolved. have a great day!

From: Jade Jensen this will be my last post to this thread Dontcha love it when people tell you they're having the last word then walking away? From: someone here is the quote from sl's site: *Second Life Mentors is a group which emphasis is on helping the newcomer to Second Life. We are looking for new members to help, meet, greet and host events to welcome those newest to Second Life.* Dontcha love marketing blurb? Always sounds better in the brochure, doesnt it? From: someone obviously it's hoped that all members have integrity but it's clear many do not....period...even those who make excuses for those who don't. Mwee! Dontcha love thinly veiled insults and holier-than-thou look-down-my-nose-at-you attitudes? From: someone i hope none of you have this happen to you with one of the less than savory..... but if you do, perhaps then you'll have a different view of things.... Yup. You can be sure I will come on here and condescend everyone for their indifference to my personal drahma.

A good idea for land .. just to be safe.
When you aquire a parcel, set the amount to 999999999 and set the "sell to" option to yourself.
That way, even if you do check the "for sale" checkbox, it shouldnt have any ill effects.

That's a crappy thing to have said to someone trying to explain something to you. Perhaps LL should run criminal and psychological profile checks on anyone interested in mentoring. Maybe hire the clergy to take these positions. (NM - They are all in the Kid Grid) The great part about SL is you are dealing w/ real people. Unfortunately that entails dealing w/ the undesirable traits that real people have. The mentoring program is a wonderful thing, full of wonderful people. They are volunteers and just the act of them wanting to take part in such a selfless program usually speaks volumes of their character. Im sure occasionaly a bad apple sneaks through, they are also probably weeded out pretty quick. Perhaps YOU should join the program to help those w/ lower morals to achieve the high ethical standards you desire them to have.
