I am new to Second Life.I don't know much.I want to earn about 200$/week from second life.
I have read how people earned 150,000$/yr,nearing 100,000$ in the first annum,25000$/yr,1800$ / month , how some professionals(including la lawyer) found virtual life more profitable to real life.
How do I go about it?
I would prefer to build?
Please guide me.

HA HA HA.... Good Luck....
You might have better luck trading Linden Dollars
than trying to squeeze a nickel out of this place...

Earning that amount of money as profit (I assume you meant profit) in SL will not be easy. The person who earned US$150000 in a year did not do so straight away; they were active in SL for a while before that, and had the advantage of entering a market which was relatively young at the time and being around at the time when a major new client feature was introduced.

You've said that you'd prefer to build. What sort of thing would you prefer to build?

Register 1,500 basic accounts. You will probably need several friends to help you with this.

As others have stated, it's not going to be easy but the opportunity is there if you're creative and know how to run a business.

Don't expect to be making that kind of money in the short term, SL is a big place and getting your "name" out there takes some time.

I would suggest spending the first month exploring and seeing what SL is all about...you'll need that time to gauge what other people are making and how they are selling things.

There are really only a couple of ways to do it:

1) make/do something new and exciting
2) make/do something other people are making/doing and make/do it better

Same as real life ;)

I would really suggest you just have fun for the first month or two. If SL is not fun for you, you won't stick with it.

My 2 cents.

I think something like 9 out of 10 startup business fail. This also applies to Second Life.

If you have a good idea, some capital, some decent marketing...

Register 10,475 Premium Accounts and as long
as the Linden Dollar holds at L$300, you will
make US$150,000 profit.

The Specs:
=======
Register: 10,475 Accounts
Cost: $72/per account (US$754,200)
Stipend: L$500/wk or L$26,000/yr (US$86.32/yr)
LindenX: L$300 per 1000 Linden Dollars (US$3.33)

The Equation:
=========
(Yearly Stipend Income - Yearly Premium Acct Fee) * 10,475 = Profit
(US$86.32 - US$72.00) = $14.32 * 10,475 = US$150,002

The fact that you are asking others how to do it is problematic. What you need is a really good idea. You are going to have to realisitically assess your talents, ability, and time, as well as how much you are willing to invest. You can grow your business slowly with less risk, of course.

People do make this much in SL, but it is not easy. Only the really good designers can make this much by selling clothes, skin, building, scripting and so on, and they spend boatloads of time doing it, especially when they first start.

However, if you make an irresistible product, people will buy it. The most successful product could be a new group game (a la tringo), a new avatar type (a la tinies), or just plain better clothes, animations, etc. than can be bought elsewhere. As a builder, you might try kits or some such thing--the "relic" garden kit was successful, but I don't know about others. You will need to be a very good builder and know how to promote your work both in game and in the forum classifieds. Enter building contests whenever they occur, and donate some products as prizes for contests and raffles for the sake of publicity. Try building something that is in short supply (check out slexchange.com).

Originality counts.

One thing to realise as a builder is that whatever income you do manage to accumulate from sales could evaporate tomorrow for any number of reasons.

Someone builds a better object than yours.
People have gotten tired of your object or its not the fad anymore.
Something changes through an update that makes your object unusable.
The value of the L$ drops to the point that you are making little or no money above expenses.
SL closes.

It's an enormous amout of work to keep a product line going or create new ones constantly. You will likely spend far more hours in SL trying to make money than you would at an ordinary RL job and end up with less money made at the end of the day. If you don't love it, don't do it. THe risk is high and the payoff small.

Honestly given advice, since it was sought:

1) learn how to build (REALLY build, not just think you are good), then:

2) choose a business model that works in here, do some modest advertising

3) invest a little, take a chance. 4096m of land tier is a good place to start and maybe all or more than you need

4) don't give up in 30 or 60 days, no matter what.

That will get you to about 10k USD / yr fairly readily just logging in, relaxing, doing your thing while maintaining perspective and a great attitude. Within months, once you have your building skills down and appreciate what people want to buy.

Less effort would be expended doing that, than say, getting a Light Elf ranger to level 40 in Lineage2. And in less time, too. Six months of say, 20 SL hours a week just doing your thing and having fun, if you have some skills to start with.

Sky's the limit after that.

Good luck.
