Who's burying their head?

If people would just quit undercutting eachother then complaining about the rate 'falling,' then there wouldn't be a problem.

You dont have to read those posts :)

I am waiting for microsoft to come out with a new version of flightsim that combines SL and flight sim or SL and train sim.

Maybe Microsoft will come up with their own version.

Aah, but all that undercutting is a natural market force. Supply is in excess, hence competition drives the price down. When supply is reigned in - less competition will mean a raised price.

Raised price versus cutting what people pay for (premium stipends). Major issue of contention. For me, I could rent on basic for cheaper. Premium is all about the stipend.

Well, stipends arnt the only tool that could be adjusted; there's a wealth of other options like:
* Charging event listing fees (after all, every other form of centralised advertising in SL is charged for, why not events?)
* Changing upload fees (bigger textures == cost more to upload, although this one is one to be wary of, since it may limit creators)
* Adjusting the amount paid in various incentives (Dwell is/was one of these, there are others)

Stipends are the big one, since a huge amount is paid out from them; Basic accounts would probably be first on the chopping block if ever a change was made, since they are effectively: free account = free money.

But, I'm going to hold on comment until Dwell is cut, after that point, then we can analyse what impact it makes.

A very reasonable view. The last thing we need is another panic inducer shouting 'The L$ is falling! Kill the stipends!'

Even if they end up adjusting stipends, it will be over a phase of 12 months as I see it, new contract terms taking effect as you renew membership (or not).

Seems to me that with dwell ending, if LL started charging fees to list events too, there won't be any events. As it is I don't see why anyone would have any incentive to hold events with the entire cost of them being out of their own pocket and a low likelihood of making any of it back.

And if they lower/remove stipends, it will get even worse because then anyone wishing to create anything using their own textures or resources will have to spend more of their own $$ just to upload the textures...

No I think the answer is just to leave everything in game as is, and if some conetent creators leave then someone struggling to get noticed will be right there to take their place. The value of the $L should not be the driving force since it is such a minority who actually profit from it or even care what it is. Keep the majority happy and all will be ok.

Linden Labs current pricing structure seems to make that the case yes.

In fact, I think Premium should be all about the service - all the suggestions for sinks seem to involve paying LL for basic functionality - texture uploads, rezzing prims, teleporting etc. THOSE are what I'd LIKE to feel I pay premium for, to fully use the service provided by LL. If basics had to pay for those things it would be sufficient a differential to merit the different status without LL handing out worthless Lindens.

Nonexistent 'sinks' for premiums such as uploads, p2ptp, etc?

Works for me.
