I'm the owner of "pro racer" private sim.

I wish you take a look at the land store X,Y(903,903), it's to the extreme South-West of the SL world. You should notice my island, stuck in the corner, and 3 reservation. The reserved plot aren't mine.

If i don't overbid on the auction, i won't be able to add a new island adjacent to pro racer anymore. Never.

So i'm forced to pay more than 45US$ to protect my island, isn't it some kind of extorsion ?
(before you ask "corner-to-corner" reservation is allowed because : "Corner to corner are not considered adjacent. Only regions which share a shoreline are considered adjacent.";)

For the lazy, here is a pic : http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/4034/reservedplot3to.jpg
The yellow plot in the corner is my "pro racer" private island.
The orange plot are the auctioned plot
The purple grid is mean that no sim can be built here.

If i try to reserve a plot adjacent to MY island, right now, i have a message saying : You cannot choose a space next to a space you do not own.

This is an island sim?

I can't look in-world now for obvious reasons.

But I've had a friend who had his whole island moved so he could expand more. Took LL some time to do it (moving a sim isn't easy I guess), but he got it done and is happy.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

Whatever you do, DO NOT PAY !!!

This is extortion, when you need to expand your island insist LL move your island to where there's space and don't give in until they do. This practise should never have been started it is absolute blackmail and extortion.

I won't pay, but i don't understand the meaning of this extorsion. The only winner is LL ... the auctionner have nothing to win :-/

PS: but i don't want to move too. forcing my to leave the corner is extorsion :(

It cannot be termed blackmail but it could be termed extortion if the people/person reserving those three sim spots are forcing you to pay them money not to reserve them.

Is that what is happening? Since you cannot tell who is bidding on an auction until after it is over, has the party involved actually contacted you and told you they will not reserve the sims if you pay them?

If so, then contact LL and file an AR. It is extortion.

If not, you can't call it extortion. People have the right, according to LL policies, to reserve any available sim space or void. It's a free market. If your sim is popular, then it makes sense that someone would want to build next to it. You may have a competitor moving into your neighborhood. That's what happens in the RW. Yeah, it sucks. :(

You do not have to move your sim. You paid for it in its location. No one (other than LL) can force you to move it. However, you have the right to request your sim be moved if you want. I believe there is a one-time fee involved. When you're ready to expand, request that your current sim be moved to a spot contiguous to your new sim(s). To prevent this situation form occurring again, make sure you reserve void sim space also.

That is the only way to "protect" your turf--that is, the only way to protect your turf is by making sure it is actually your turf. Otherwise, others have the right to move in next door.

An obvious blocking move. The advice stands: Do. Not. Pay.

Let the joker involved hold the bag and pay LL for the reservations.

When you are ready to expand, move your sim. It will cost you $150 I believe. Then expand all at once. Have your reservatins in place and Do Not Corner Yourself like that. Drop the emotional attachment to a spot on the grid or you will be easy prey to that sort of griefing and extortion.

The land store reservations have turned the grid into a nasty game of Go where you need to plan ahead and it doesn't matter who you are really, someone will come along and try to block you. The small time operator is best off packing up and leaving the blocker holding reservations on worthless sims. (Unless they really badly want to corner themselves like you did.)

Don't expand unless LL moves you for free LL created this extortion if they want to get fees from affected island let them move you or deny them additional fees.

This sort of thing is old news.

Look at the reservation smack between Caledon and the western edge of the world. Safely a few sims away, not a big deal, UNLESS you know Caledon is expanding.

And it's been there for a good while now. No way would I challenge it, I'm not stupid.

Not only that, it was done by a 'newbie' with no friends, no groups, nothing, who did it as one of their very first acts in the world. THIS is a serious sim purchase coming? Great name for that reservation maker, too.

We haven't seen anything yet - just wait until the board gets tight.

Study the issue. Like the Prisoner's Dilemma, it makes far more sense for a small player to go on offence than to play defence.

How many otherwise good people are going to blow a fuse, get banned, and have *all* their sims go dark?

Philip, Chris, please, please, please reconsider this void sim reservation thing.
