Whos in favor of a new net-worth ranking proposal..
the same figures.. only the L$ one bought with USD deducted..

makes it a little more fair..

Then we can see who's really up the ranking in making money....

I don't think they can tell that. While IGE Wheeling and a couple of the people from GOM are easily identified, dozens sell on Ebay and through private transactions.

And if they only track $L related to sales, you are going to see a lot of bogus sales so that their money stays in the calculations.

The problem is if there is a list, some people will do whatever it takes to get on it.

I like the spirit of the idea, though.

maybe Linden Labs does find a way to make a list on best sellers.. like with the most customers...

leaders different buyers/donators ... only then the cheap shops are in the top 10 instead of the good businesses...

Better idea - change the name "leader board" to "most assets".

I mean, who really cares who got in more ratings abuse or who owns more land? These factor nothing into who really is a "leader" in second life.

Even better idea, remove the public listing of the net worth of other residents. What you have in your account is really none of my business.

I disagree. In RL we publish net worth statistics of the wealthy, I see no reason that leaders shouldn't have their wealth known, too.

Agree 100%. And you'll always have people who dont want to appear on the radar taking steps to make sure they don't, so it's never going to be accurate.

BTW, what IS net worth? It doesnt relate to 'cash in the bank', and the difference doesnt seem to have any bearing on what mainland holdings you have. So how is it calculated?

All money I offload is through my money holding alt. That is the only contact I have with the money changers. I offer this as an example of how it will be extremely difficult to track such stuff, regardless of how cool the idea might be ... in practice it wont work.

Net worth is ur balance + the value of the land you own..

The leader board should just be abolished altogether, at least in its current form. Maybe if/when a new ratings system is implimented a new board can be created.

i'm for ditching it completely. it doesn't measure anything meaningful and it measures it inaccurately too. plus it's none-of-your-beeswax.

and ditch ratings while we're at it.

I don't think a new category is neccessary. How do you know who bought what, first? And second, what difference does it make? If you buy $L with $US, you still spend them and stimulate the economy. That is still making a valuable contribution.

And besides, as a content creator, I figure if they don't buy the lindens to buy my stuff, then I don't end up with the money anyway.

NO NO NO! I use alts to hold my money just because i dont like people knowing what i got.. why would i want someone to know what i earn daily?

i couldn't care less what anybody's financially worth inworld. that's not my game.

In RL we publish those lists because people choose to acquire assets of publicly traded companies. All other assets listed are speculation. If I am just some schmuck trying to run a business and make something of my time here, it is NO ONE'S BUSINESS how well I am doing or what my assets are.

Give people the choice to be listed. If they choose, fine. If not, they should not be included in the mix.
