1. Product advertisement.
2. Shop managing. (Precedence: hiring managers for clubs.)
3. Texture shopping.
4. Shopping by proxy.

I suggest to them buying $L is the best way to enjoy SL in the early days.

I'm used to spending $US100.00 for a nice evening out. That same $US100.00 will buy a new user $L26,000.

That s enough to last a month or more for an average user.

To make $L26,000 in game a new user might expect spending a hundred hours working.

At minumum wage (about $US6) it would take less than 20 hours to earn that same $L26000.

This talk of "Getting a noob job" or "Giving a noob job" sounds dirty to me. Do noob jobs leak saline? ;)

Would hosting events be considered viable also for this list? I mean, I've seen more than a handful casinos/games/organizations that hire fairly new people to host events...

And at minimum chinese wage, how many weeks of work is that ? :D

I think I'll start hiring noobs cheap to index all the semi-permanent content in SL.

As the world grows, surely there must be more of a place for product testers. Not only have I found it fun (getting to give some great gadgets a spin), it's rather motivating to see what creativity continues to be sparked here.

You know Torley, you might be on to something. Hiring someone to test a product before it goes live, find bugs, suggest features. If you find the right person(s) for the job, this could be quite handy.

but why would i pay someone new to test something, when i can just drop it on Torley? But seriously, the main reason to have someone new test something would be if you are targeting the newbie market. Otherwise, one suspects it would be more hassle than worth. Especially if you are paying them.
That said, I need someone to throw rose prims in front of me as I float around SL. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Kevin, are you looking for a girlfriend? LOL Buying land excepted, I have never even come close to spending $L26,000 in a month, however, I COULD try.

:-)

Seriously, as a SL Greeter, I often take newbies shopping. I will sometimes help finance the shopping trip, to get them the basics, hair, shoes and a designer outfit. Lately, I see more and more newbies purchasing money directly from Linden.

I mention it to them when questioned on ways to earn money.

I came to this realization very early. Unlike "levelling worlds" where the object is to accumulate wealth through "click slave" activities, because its hard or illegal to buy skill or plat, SL encourages one to become a virtual consumer. Except for the truly indigent, it is far simpler to buy a few thousand Lindens to get started. It also encourages the virtual creator, including those who create for gain and those who create for pure pleasure.

This does turn on its head the ordinary experience of most MMORGPs. But then, SL does things differently. It shifts the emphasis from a relationship of "world v. harvesters" to "world plus creators and consumers". Both creators and consumers have a vital role in the economy of SL. I use "economy" in the broad sense to include attention and community experience as limiting and scarce resources.

I pay 500 L or I give a copy of my product for that fee if it warents it for someone to test out a product and give me ideas on how to better it. Most are extremely happy to help. This is not limited to newbies either.

Then if I made a nice product, they use it and also work as advertising free as other will ask about the product. It has worked so far and I have been able to improve what I make.
