This may be nothing new, and I am aware that some use this method to scam people but today it caught my attention even more.
Went to buy some land. Clicked on the buy land option and as usual the big box popped up showing me the price and my tier and so on. It all looked good so I clicked to continue with the transaction. Well, as I was reading the specs, the owner changed the price on the land. When I clicked buy it didn't sell it to me for the price it was showing me I was going to pay but the new price that the owner changed it to.
In this case nobody was trying to scam me and he bought the land back from me but I could have been easily ripped off! Linden should fix this. If that price changes after you clicked to start the purchase procedure, it should cancel the transaction and make you start over in my opinion.

Well I played the game and lost!
I found a scammer tonight switching a 16sqm lot from $L1 to $L450 back and forth. So I decided to play the game and maybe teach them a lesson. I waited at a distance and watched until he set it for $L1. Then quickly, I bought it. Sure enough, Linden gave him $L450 I'm the one who got taught the lesson! Keep in mind I didn't even bother iming the person as I'm sure it would a been a waste of time. I watched them for a while doing this and I can't see any reason they would do it other then to cheat someone so I doubt I was getting my money back.
So once again I say, Linden, you need to address this problem! I feel sorry for the poor person that gets taken for thousands. Heck, it could be me!!

You steal land from idiots and newbies for L$1 and when you miss on one you get pissed? I sold some 16 sqm squares to someone yesterday for L$1. I marked two too many for him. In the process of setting it back you TRIED to steal one and someone else did. Now your pissed? Now you want the Lindens to help YOU?!? The rule is BUYER BEWARE. And you better because now that land has been stolen from me, I plan to make that money back. TIMES TEN. Maybe not today. Maybe not this week. But from time to time I'm gonna do it again and again. Until I get my money back and you LEARN NOT TO STEAL.

From: Schwanson Schlegel Neither of you guys tried IMing the other? That would be pointless since he is muted after he got pissy when I asked why he place a spinning box in front of a JEVN I had. He could have went higher or lower but he placed it in front to be a dick. Seems to be his way. Sad thing is that was right after I had bought land from him at a rather high price but in a great location. He'll never sell any more land to me unless it's L$1. Anyway I got my fair asking price of L$450 for 16sqm next to a casino from him. Why would I IM him? And the other guy stole land that I really needed to get rid of from L$449 less than I intended. Big deal. He IMed me some lowball offer for the rest. I just cussed him out and muted him. Still from time to time... Land thieves had better beware. I told some others about it too. GAME ON!

You must have me confused with someone else? I don't ever remember you iming me about anything? I'm a pretty reasonable person and if I was causing you problems, I'm sure I would have solved that problem unless you were just being a jerk. And I have nobody muted?
Other then that, I watched you for a long time price switching! If you were doing that for reasons other then the obvious, I apologise. But I observed what I observed.
One last thing, don't accuse me of stealing. That's not my game. Ask around. Again, you must have me confused with another??

One last thing, don't accuse me of stealing. That's not my game. Ask around. Again, you must have me confused with another?? Nope. It was you. And I never said you had me muted. Yes you did watch me price switch for quite a while. I set and sold a number of squares to someone for L$1. And (as stated) when I went to set a couple back because I set too many, I set the land to anyone first. Then changed the price. Changed the price back to the original fair amount that I had been asking before. You saw it and tried to take advantage of it. You didn't bother reading your confirmation. If you had you would have seen you were agreeing to pay more. I accused you of ATTEMPTING TO STEAL. And it is your game. You watched me changing prices on blocks of land and you attempted to grab one in that second that it was vulnerable. You even admitted to it. From: someone . So I decided to play the game and maybe teach them a lesson. I waited at a distance and watched until he set it for $L1. Then quickly, I bought it. Why lie and cover up now? That admission alone would get you kicked out of most games. But here it's not just allowed, it's encouraged. Unless you steal from Linden Labs directly. So no. I have you confused with no one. YOU ARE AN ATTEMPTED AND FAILED THEIF. And now a liar too.

All this over $L 499? Honestly... this is the price of a hot cinnamon danish. Without the coffee. I have no idea who's doing what, but could the evil party here, whomever that may be, at least *strive* to better themselves, even as an archcriminal? At least there is some grudging respect for those - instead of $L 499 go for $L 4,999,000 or more, and do it with *style* for god sakes... One meeellion dollars, - Desmond

Eer... correct me if I'm wrong... but can I jump in as outside mediator for a moment?
Maybe it's just 'cause I'm not seeing every part of this story... but... this looks like the two of you are having a huge misunderstanding.
The way I'M reading it... person A has noticed a few times where they went to buy land, only to find it changed as he tried to buy it, assuming the person doing that was doing so completely on purpose, whether or not they really were. Then they think they're catching person B 'in the act', wants to teach them a lesson, but they don't pay enough attention and the plan backfires. Person B, doing something completely innocent, thinks that they have just caught Person A 'in the act' of trying to steal land. There is much yelling back and forth, each thinking the other was trying to scam, etc, etc.
Is that the skinny of it?

Why does everything have to turn into an argument, I just don't get it and I'm not continuing this on. I think reading what's been said already and by whom is self explanatory for those who have a brain. My whole point in the first place is the buying system has flaws that LL should look at, that's all

how did this thread start out as a guy warning people about a flaw in a system to an argument over one guy trying to rip another off?
this is one of those train wreck threads
as to the subject of the thread (and my first post because of the train wreck more then anything) umm? I have seen this as well, but being someone who must read every dang thing before I click I didn't get caught this time. I just make a mental note not to purchase things like this while I am tired but yes Linden should put a failsafe in not allowing a land owner to change a price more then once every x hours and then put a bunch of "are you sure?!?!?!?!" boxes in the price setting interface so the owner reads what price he sets before he clicks to sell it.

More importantly, why are people arguing about private matters on the threads?

Desmond, a graceful suggestion: you purchase the danish, I'll acquire the coffee. We can split it and call it even, mmmkay? I'm going to let our Liaisons and Support know about this for further awareness. I'm also going to lock this thread, because personal disputes should be carried out elsewhere... not in the forums.
