Bob, this was set by the Lindens to OPEN at US $1041, that's what's WEIRD. And maybe someone inadvertently thought it was Lindens and just clicked.
And all the lots say $1 -- haven't you ever noticed that? They do in-game and on the auction but they don't mean that.
Hmmm...could Lonsdale be the ferry landing for the ferries to the new content Magellan is exploring? Something like that????

Yes, Bob you're right it's $1 PER SQUARE METER on auctions in US and it appears to be $1LL in game? But the $1/LL in game is just a placeholder.
OK, I confess, I'm a sucker, I went out there and looked at that parcel. I can't for the life of me see what's up. It's at 240-240, and it is "end of the world" meaning that it really isn't waterfront and something will come there, maybe there is some rumour about that?
And there is plenty of other land out there, some cheap, it's PG.
And there is a lot owned by Gov. Linden with a Gov. Linden pre-fab FLW house on it and firework launchers, but it the objects on it are owned by a name of an avatar no longer in SEARCH. I dunno, looks like just released land to me.
I'm sure I'll regret passing up this 512 for $2999 right now....This could be the edge of the new continent or something.

OK the Linden liaisons said it's a mistake LOL. I'm such a sucker, good thing I didn't buy that 512 for $2999 but hey, it's a nice little neighbourhood, quiet, no clubs, fps could be better (495) but it's sweet PG.
