How much does a decent parcel of land sell for? Silly question I know, but I just 'arrived' today and there is so much to learn and sort out before I know where I can fit in.

That depends entirely on the size you want and the area you want to live in.... A small 512 sq/m plot can go anywhere from L$ 1900 up to L$ 6000 or 7000. Some people try to charge more but they rarely sell. I'd rarely consider paying more than L$ 10,000 per 1024 sq/m unless the land is an absolute gem.. even then it is worth contacting the seller and trying to negotiate with them. These days, if you think the average price is about L$ 6 per square metre you shouldn't go to far wrong. Beach land is more expensive generally and snow covered land is generally cheaper. The best thing to do is explore and use the about land tools to see the size and price. I often have 'Show Land Owners' switched on. That way any land for sale is coloured orange and stands out nicely. Anything not for sale is red, purple indicates it's up for auction. Good hunting.. ![]() _____________________

Excellent question. Welcome to SL
As a new resident you are eligible for a discounted 512 sq m plot at $1L/sq m as a one time only deal from designated "First Land" area. You may resell the land at any time thereafter at any price. As far as land prices go, Mature sims - 4 to 7/sq m and PG sims - 3 to 5/sq m are normal price ranges. _____________________

How much does a decent parcel of land sell for? Silly question I know, but I just 'arrived' today and there is so much to learn and sort out before I know where I can fit in. "Decent" is a difficult thing to define ![]() New players are entitled to buy one time only subsidised 'First Land' at L$512 for a 512 sq m parcel of land. It's enough to stick a little house on but that's about it. They resale for around L$3500-$5000 depending on the location on an open market. Right now, I wouldn't worry too much about buying land - I'd have a look round and see all that the game has to offer. I'm guessing you're on a free Basic account - you can't own land with that (although you can rent from another player) so you'd need to upgrade to Premium at $9.95 a month (which gives you a 512 sq m free land allocation) plus additional costs for whatever more land you buy over that. If you go to Find > Land and see what's available - buy as well as auction - it might give you an idea of what's about. Remember that the price is per sq m, so do sort by price as well as size to see what the deals are. Before buying land - make sure you have good neighbours! Welcome to SL - and there are plenty of people who will be happy to show you around. If you haven't gotten a greeter yet, ask in Live Help (Help > Live Help) or find one from the Help Island board. How much does a decent parcel of land sell for? The decent land isn't too bad. It's the indecent land that tends to be more expensive. (sorry, couldn't resist. Welcome to SL!) |

True... most people's first route tends to be 'what they know', ie a small suburban house surrounded by a white fence - rather than exploring the creativite potential of SL. One of my friends has a home which is a barrel with a 'sleep' poseball. Five prims. Plenty of room on a 512 ![]() Lewis _____________________

You don't necessarily have to buy land - there are lots of rentals available. You can rent land, a house, cottage, even places in the sky - and you don't have to be a premium member to rent. Use the Find button and search the Classifieds or Places tab to search for rental, apartments, etc. You can also find ads here in the forums under the Classifieds section. -2fast |

512s arent bad..who says you have to have a house? Maybe a patio and a small pond. Welcome to the game. ![]() Heh, I lived in a gazebo surrounded by trees on my first land. I think I had more prims in plants and trees than in the gazebo ![]() I didn't start having an house until I'd been a in SL for almost a year and had a partner. Something about domestic arrangements that make you start wanting furniture and more closet space... _____________________

Thanks for all the advice, and thanks to Dhalia Unsung for all the free stuff!
I am planning to step out into the world today (I logged out on newbie island). I saw a really nice treehouse design, I might build myself a treehouse if it isn't too hard ![]() Instead of buying property right away, I think I will float around awhile as most have suggested here until I figure out where I want to live and what I want to 'do' with my life! |

I have a small hobo camp under my display platform at Marlin Engineering Headquarters in Horseshoe. There is a lean-to with a sleep poseball, a camp fire, some seats, and a few assorted rocks and trees and debris.
Its a very comfortable place to go and relax, and the closest thing I have to a non-business related "home" in SL. - Jon _____________________
