SpeedTree: http://www.speedtree.com/

I have no idea when, but I guess after seeing that 1.7 did NOT contain too much of the promised features (things that were promised MANY months ago!), I dunno...

I'm waiting for a good Linux version of SL since a year or so, but I guess that doesn't make you any happier :-)

Looks like this was announced in March, but here we are in October waiting for the leaves to fall...

Actually when announced they were slated for the fall of 2005 (now).

But there was a comment just yesterday on another thread where a Linden noted that they basically havent devoted any resources to it yet (haven't started).

Meantime, and I suspect it will be a LONG time going by LL's track record, I suggest anyone wanting a bit more than the 'average' SL tree go and take a look at Fate Gardens, 'touch' the trees to reveal a control panel. There's even a free 'Forest Tree'.

No connection with Fate gardens except as a satisfied paying customer.

Buster's software entropy rule: Always add 10% * time-since-inception to all estimates.

SL is two years old. So currently you have to add 73 days to any initial estimate.

For software development teams that function ad-hoc and don't have a strong architectural SDLC, the formula is more complicated. You have to add an additional 1% per month. So if SL were to fall into that category, and two years old, add another 24%. Two years * 34% = 248 days.

So in that case you'd expect to add 248 days to any initial estimate.

What was that havvoc 2 estimate again?

Actually, we'll still have the original textures as well as hundreds of others. In fact, they've already been reformated into the Speedtree format. Engine integration is "slated" for the 2.0 release along with the new rendering engine. I've no idea when that'll be. My best serious guesstimate is mid-2006.

Thanks for the mention Doc.

Wow, talk about optimism! You probably believe Windows® NT® 7® will be released this decade too?

I like the trees we have now, except when they sway through my walls from the next sim over.

Hmmm, well Fate Gardens trees have switchable (on/off) wind, and unlike LL trees wind is not violent 300mph gusts, it's just a gentle realistic movement of foliage...

We'll get them with Havok 2.

...Which coincidentally will be released a few days after Duke Nukem Forever.

Agrees all around.... nothing speedy about LL's delivery of the new trees.

Also agrees with Buster, who said:
