I see these available first land for $L512....but not many and only available in a couple of places. Are they really re- sellable at a profit or would a new subscriber with some $L saved up be better off buying a 512 block for about 3k or so for a better future resell value??

They're intended to get newbies into owning land. They're exactly the same as any other land, and prefectly resellable, (Indeed, it's where new land comes from.) and always for considerably more than $L512. Whatever you do, *don't* buy different land before you get your first land. You're only eligible for first land *once*. If you buy something other than first land first, you can't get first land. Buy the first land.

Resell Value

I have to agree that you should buy your *first land* 512 while you can still buy it. It is only allowed as a one time deal...just as it says...FIRST land.
I resold my First Land, for $10,000 .... without anything on it, and nothing nearby except a few other places of first land.
Property value gets a bit strange though...hard to predict....I have another spot that I would have been sure would sell and be worth much more....but nothing for over 6 weeks on the open market.
So....YES. Buy the First Land. You have nothing to lose.

I bought first land about 7 months ago. Since then, I've added almost another 2000 square meters to it. First Land is a great way to get started, and it doesn't cost anything per month until you buy more than the 512 Or just buy and resell

So unless I'm mistaken, isn't your statement incorrect? If you then sell it to return to the basic/free account you have additional administrative costs. Would it still be worth it?

Would it still be worth it? Sorry. I meant that the monthly land fee would be 0 until you bought more.

Are they really re- sellable at a profit or would a new subscriber with some $L saved up be better off buying a 512 block for about 3k or so for a better future resell value?? First land is always resellable for profit. Some (all?) land barons will give you $2000L instantly. It's not so easy to make an instant profit like that on a 512 you buy for 3K...even if it's in a better location. I sold my first land two months ago for $6500L, but it was two blocks back from the sea. My friend sold hers, located next to protected land, for $6000L last week. Another friend just sold his for $4500 (nothing special about that)...and bought one much better located -- next to a protected road, for his shop -- for $3000L. It's a little mysterious why FL can go for so much, given the often messy locations, but in all our cases, I note it was a relatively new member paying the price...somebody who appeared to want to enlarge their FL plot quickly, without moving to a different area. Some people are strangely sentimental about their FL I guess. Be careful what you buy if you want to maximise profit. Certain factors (squareness of land, flatness of land, whether it's near a road or the sea, etc.) could increase its value considerably.

when I first started in SL in Feb. 2004, I got a plot of first land right after I bought a plot in a land rush (They actually had those back then, where you all line up and wait for the sim to come up, and grab land at L$1/Sqm) I resold my first land for L$3K to a neighbor within the week, bought up a bunch more plots in that sim, and within 2 weeks, turned my first land money into a cool L$20K. a good start for a noob 1 month in. Also that was back in the day where L$5K was worth US$21-$25. Man what I wouldn't give to see the L$ value at that level again. Anyways, get your first land, its a good investment, and a great start in SL.

Of course, the 9.95 for one month's premium membership would buy nearly 3000 Linden dollars, so you'd have to sell for more than about 3500 to make a profit if you weren't planning to go premium anyhow. But if you are going to buy any land, make it first land first.

(Used to work out much better on a yearly basis, but not at the new stipend rate of L$400/week with an exchange rate of L$300/US$1.)
