I recently moved my land under group owned status. I am one of 2 officers and there is one member. I won't go into the reasons this was done (besides the 10% boost) its there now I don't have the option to change it at this point.

So moving forward with the warts and all of groups and owning land in them.

I have been having some trouble with people placing and installing things on my land so I am trying to keep it locked down as much as possible. But I am facing the problem that I cannot work on my own land unless I allow editing by others. It was my imperession that one of the uses of land and groups was the that you could use them to restrict acivities to people on land to those of a group. Am I wrong?

Or maybe I should ask a smaller question, how can I work on my land and ngive that ability to a few others, in group, without giving to evryone in the world?

Also I had trouble figuring where to put this question, if you have a suggestion on a better forum please let me know.

Thanks.

At the very least, officers should be able to edit group land without setting the general free for all edit land option.

Please contact me in game after SL is back up this afternoon or evening and we'll see if we can walk through this together.

The way you've phrased this is unclear to me. In general, when people talk about editing land, they mean terraforming. But it seems like you're talking about building.

Anyway, you can set land "no build", "no script", and "no edit land".

"no build" means that people can't rez things on the land.
"no script" means that scripts don't run on the land.
"no edit land" means that people can't terraform the land.

I need to get in world to check this, but my memory is that "no build" works against everyone on group owned-land. At least, every time time that I've tried to use "no build", I determined that it was useless because it prevented me from building as well.

By contrast, if you set "no edit land". This stops other people from terraforming, but officers of the group can still do it.

need to verify this when SL comes up...

I knew this would happen hard to describe...

This part I get, the land was under my direct control and ownership before I put it in a group and I had not problems at that time...teraforming, building or with scripts.

Well this is what I am talking about, I cannot build when I have this unchecked...but I am the only controlling officer. Is that the way it is supposed to work? Because that is really a bad bit of design. That maens that to do building on my land in the group then I have to let any idiot who comes along do it as well, and let me tell a not-so-secret-secret there are lots of idiots and grievers out there. In the short couple of weeks I have had this setup I have had people install media streams, install spy scripts, build and leave every imaginable bit of crap on my land.

I really hope there is another solution. The other side of this question is how I build, or should I say, under what guise I build. I keep the group active that owns the land while I build but despite this the objects appear as owned by me and of coarse they will be returned as well since the system is making no distintion. I know about the list but I would like to use auto return. Any ideas?

Don't know about media streams, since I haven't used them, but autoreturn is the answer to most of this.

If the group is active when you create a prim, then the group of the prim will be automatically set. It will be owned by you, but since its group is set to the same group that owns the land, it will not be returned by autoreturn.

However, before you turn on autoreturn, you must make sure that you set the group of any prims that you had created previously.
