Linden Labs Deranged or Need $US?

I've noticed for some time there is a huge glut of land for sale. Plots everywhere, most of them priced on the high side - yet not much buying going on.

I bought several parcels bordering a protected Linden sim. I bought there BECAUSE it was adjacent on one side. And, I would have thought with so much land available, the chances of an auction any time soon were very low.

So, what does LL do? They auction it off. Now I assume the Land Baron who bought it will chop it into a gazillion 512 plots. I hope not, though.

Instead of wholesaling even more land why not work on making existing land more valuable?

I once played Sim City 3000. Making the little sims happier made the land value go up. Things like putting parks in between plots would raise the value a lot. I mean, who would not prefer living next to protected park land? Trees, rivers, ponds, etc. No scripts, no build, protected.

Some ideas for LL:

1. Zone different sims either Commercial, Residential, or some mixture of the two.

2. In Residential sims, run strips of protected land in such a way so that most people who buy a home could have at least one border adjacent to the protected land. It would be sort of like a shared park environment for all the home-owners on eithe side of the strip.

3. Yes, I know that the strips would not produce tier income for LL. But, would it not get more people to buy and keep land, knowing they had that protected land beside them?

I am probably going to sell my land off now, and perhaps rent. This will lower my tier to zero. So, LL is cutting their own throat in this case - they could have had years of tier money from me. Now, they get a quick $1000 or so and possibly lose me as a customer who is paying tier.

LL is not cutting their own throat. In fact, if you keep the land less than a month they get a bonus as two people will pay tier on the same parcel. As long as someone is tiering the land, LL is happy. Sad but true.

I would love to participate in a boycott of the land auction for a few months and focus on buying and selling in-world land exclusively. In this way maybe some of the excess land could sell off and property values could rise. I don't see how this would be possible without the other regular bidders all participating as well though. If one continues to bid then all must continue to bid. Also sad but true. A great situation for LL though.

Shaun, once you get to the point where you own half a sim or more you can afford to carry smaller individual plots and hold out for what you believe to be a fair price for the potential.

For example I own a tropical island which is surrounded by its own water (part of the plot) which is 4098 square metres and its up for sale for 50k which is not an unreasonble price given the land values in the new sims.

Given the lindon dollar inflation issues it is better to own land rather than carry too many Lindon dollars in game. And the real dollar cost of those square metres reduces as you own more land, which in my case is income tax relievable -:)

We generally carry 4-12 sims on tier at any given time, so yes I'm quite familiar with these concepts. :) I was speaking more to the origion of the land being held and turned over. Converting more sims from Linden land to land for sale via the auction adds to the overall land glut and depresses the market. Focusing on in-world liquidations and resales has the opposite effect.
