Hey all that read this, thanks.. I never done a forum before but would like to ask all you guys for help me on a problem. I am trying to figure out if anyone else is suffering the same sim problems as i do for a long time now, meaning a constant lagging sim that even causes ppl to crash at some points if it gets to crowded *meaning over 20 ppl on the sim. An avarage package loss of 2.5 every day and pings that jump up and down from 98 to as high as 4000 *and i even seen 12.000 at one point ! the information I have gathered during this time of bugging lindens with bug reports and live help with hard questions,.. even bugging rl friends that know about pc's as i dont realy.. is this .. My pc is not *new*, but its deffenetly good enough to play sl, recently updated mainboard, videocard and RAM. my internet provider is one of the best in my country and is recently updated to 3mb download. My sim is over 1.5 years old for sure as that is the amount of time i have my home/Bar here, the stats are getting worse every month and its a desaster after every update.. short note.. my sim is getting worse and worse to walk on for everybody not just me.. this + the fact that over half of the simland is for sale (and not being sold..) should give you a clue on the stats of it Ok I think you can all tell by now i am just a simple person not all that into computers and the technology of the digital world,.. but I think everybody knows that pc's servers and everything made even a year ago is good enough to operate but cant realy keep up with todays tools anymore... the lindens do updates and keep trying to improve sl.. but what do they do about these ageing servers, are they just adding new ones ore also updating the older ones ? Is it a fact that we cant have clubs ore big groups of ppl at the same time on an old server sim ? and does this mean we have to move our store/club/gathering spot to new sims to get rid of the complaining customers / visitors / friend ? I for one am getting very sad about it all as its taking up to much of my play time allready and I dont know what to tell the ppl that like my place but cant visit due to this bad lag issue anymore. Do I tell them its my pc and connection causing this for them aswell ? ore do i tell them they must have a bad pc/connection like i probably have acourding to lindenlab ? do i tell them the lindens try to help me for over half a year now and still trying ? do i tell them to drop by later ? Plz if anybody can tell me if you know about this problem on your sim ore a friends simular to mine and with the same trouble in finding help anywere ? ore maybe you had this problem but it was solved ? I would so like to hear about that,. maybe we can help eachother finding a solution... I so NOT want to move everything i build on my sim over the past 1.5 year.. Regards, Careltje Phoenix *IM me anytime inworld

You are not the only one.
This happens to me daily, even in my home sim - even when that sim is completely empty of people. Things slow to a crawl, and I can barely move. I've bugged the Live Help, but the only suggestion I've gotten it to try more RAM (it is ordered).
I have a brand new PC, with Athlon 3500 CPU, 512 M RAM, and Gforce 6600 video card with 256 Mb RAM in it.
Sometimes to move normally I have to turn everything off in the graphics preferences, and set my draw distance to 64.
I've checked the stats many times with Live Help. My FPS is 45.0, the SIM FPS is 44, and time-dilation is 0.99 - which is all good I am told. No packet loss either.
Maybe the RAM will help me! Good luck with your problem...

maybe RAM might really help =) my pc runs SL quite smoothly , not much lag too. I have 756RAm so it might. But tis is comments of a common pc user not expert ;p so i might be wrong.

From: ReserveBank Division If you don't like your sim, then move. Simple solution. think about your awnser again... would it be simple to sell this land ... would it be simple to buy a simular location with water, and road touching the land ... for a prize 1 on 1 of my selling price ... would it be all that simple to re-build everything ... and then think about ... what if we all did that,.. oh bad sim... lets get the heck outa here.. would that help anything ? ore anybody ? and my last point.. I am paying RL Cash for that land and my being here in SL ... All I am trying is to get is some respons from ppl that are serious about trying to help and who knows solve some issues, not running away from them.. so plz anybody got an awnser that might help ? *if not then maybe for the next owner ... as I DO hear you and all the other ppl that told me this before you..

if you are running SL over a wireless.. expect intermittent crapouts, very very few wireless routers handle UDP packets well (the type of data transmission that makes up the bulk of SL data use)
also if you, or someone else in your home (or even neighborhood if you have a lower end isp) is running p2p like kazaa/directconnect/bittorrent/etc those will have huge impacts on what kind of net performance you can get.

I do have some issues as it seems with my windows update, am not wireless.. and I am not talking about me and my problem alone.. its my guests staying away.. my customers complaining, ppl that do come leaving after 10 minutes cause they just cant walk,.. my sim for over half of it for sale and not selling.. if it sells it is only until the new owner tries to build something , then puts it up for sale again.. its not an individual problem here.. my friends. group members and a lot of ppl are complaining to me about the condition they are in on my sim.. and this sim is not run trough my pc as i believe... i am doin all i can to run well on my sim and because i live and run my bar there i am actually one of the best walkers in there on events .. ore meetings .. and realy , I am doing GREAT at other sims.. realy not many problems at all

Its not your problem (well it is, but not your computer that causes it). LL should do something about that/those server(s). Adding more RAM is nice but not a away to atract you visitors: "Before you TP add more RAM" SL should be available with the lowest specs and not with the best of the best of the best. I know this doesnt help you a step further.. Just my 2 eurocent Hope you get it fixed soon!

I know little about these type of things, technical etc....
But I have noticed that on the stats your sim regularly has some of the ugliest looking graphs - the question is what is causing it?
If it was me I would wonder around with a lag finder when these events are occuring and see if you can track down the source/s to something you or somebody else owns. Also is there a timing pattern to it on the stats or events. Sorry if I'm saying everything already tried.
Otherwise, I would find out from the Lindens if they will tell you if your server is having an upgrade any time soon...hmm.
Ultimately if you cant sort it - moving may be the only (bit heartbreaking) option. I would just make sure where I was moving to is better before I jumped.
It took me 4 moves to find the place I eventually settled in and still there is no guarantees it will stay nice and relatively lag free forever (other than buying a whole sim, of course) - sad but true.
Good Luck

Hallo , latest update Today I saw warren linden who works for support in LL on my land and wanted to say hi but i was to lagged out after a tp from the bar to the beach.. go figure lol anyways, wenn i got out of this lag attack he was to far away so i started to walk to him but couldnt due to the lag.. I had just started an event so it was not realy crowded.. but after the 3rd guest apeared, warren was gone .. (at least WE didnt see him no more, lol) Talking to my guests about this issue on my land *as they were complaining about being lagged out* and the fact that warren was there, excited us all cause now it been realy looked at.. i couldnt wait for the email he was bound to send me as he ignored me completely while on my land. well this was what i got from him... Greetings, Were not finding anything in the statistics that would trigger any alerts. I have also visited off and on your SIM the past 2 days and have encountered no serious issues. I've talked with Ethan and he believes it has to do with your networking which would tie into your XP not being updated. He stated he did have issues that night but it was related to his own connection that he figured out later that night. He also stated he found nothing unusual about the SIM. If other users are encountering issues they may also contact us and we will work through each person one by one to see if they are also running out of date drivers, OS etc which is quite common. Regards, Warren Linden So now its upto me to ask everyone that is lagged out and crashing on my land the status of of their pc , and ask them to contact the lindens wenn they have trouble on my land... mhm... this is starting to become funny again ... i WILL do this and keep you upto date

So why is it each week or so that I go look at the sim stats page... http://planet0.planet-zero.org/~chromal/sim_stats/and see this kind of stuff... http://www.planet-zero.org/~chromal/sim_stats/Dosojin.7day.avg.pnghttp://www.planet-zero.org/~chromal/sim_stats/Dosojin.pngDo I think geez, I am glad I don't live there... Does LL acknowledge there is lag or have a suggestion about that? I'm not saying there is a problem with their hardware and I dont know how the graphs are generated but those graphs seem to suggest something is going on and you would think it would be in everybodies interest to work it out.

The Lindens want us to believe that these problems are network problems unrelated to their servers. I believe they are wrong.
My computer's drivers are totally up to date, and it has a 3.4mhz processer, 1 gig ram, and a DSL connection that usually clocks bandwidth around 900 / 400 kpbs. I experience these lag storms all the time : jerky performance, round trip pings on the debug menu of over two seconds, and less than one frame per second refresh. They occur long after I have logged in, and I fully rezzed: there are no downloads in the queue. While this is going on, my own local pinger takes under 40 ms for a roundtrip from my home (L.A.) to San Francisco, and bandwidth exceeds 700 kpbs. All this in a sim that usually only has a couple of people in it. And if I walk to the next sim (if I can move at all), the problems persist. No connection to any other website returns this kind of behavior. Repeated bug reports have met with no response, except early on an email or two blaming me for the problem. Back in May 2005 when I first tried out SL, if I had experienced this sort of performance, I would have never come back. Recently, playing SL has become more of a battle than an enjoyable experience. If these problems persist, I will quit. This will make me very sad.

I am not saying this applies to your situation at all, but I thought that I would share what happened with my lag problem.
The problem was that I was having to keep my draw distance down to 128 or even 64. Even in Sims where I was the only person there, when I would TP in I would get so much lag I could not move! The more textures there were, the worse the lag would be. I had turned off or lowered every single setting in Graphics to try to help with this.
Live Help proved to me that this was a problem on my end. The "Sim FPS" would rarely be below 44. I had 512 Mb of RAM and they told me that was probably the source of my problem. I did notice that when I could not move, the hard drive would sit there grinding away.
Yesterday I received two 1 Gig memory modules and got them installed. The difference is incredible! No more freezing up, even in a high-texture area. No more hard drive grinding away when I try to turn. I can keep my draw distance set to 320 now with no problems.
With 2 Gigs of RAM things are so much better in SL for me. Yes, in a busy Sim I still experience some slow-downs, but nothing like before.
I think Linden Labs should definitely raise their "recommended" system specs to play SL. They suggest 256 Mb RAM minimum, and recommend 512. I have found out the hard way that 512 is simply not enough!

From: Pix Paz Does LL acknowledge there is lag or have a suggestion about that? Well I have send Warren Linden the status url were you can definitly find that my sim is VERY bad.. and this was his anwser Greetings, All those stats show is that the SIM is overloaded. There are too many scripts running for the SIM to handle. Short of you banding together with your neighbours to reduce the number of scripts running on that SIM your only performance gain will be by working with me to improve the drivers of your system, but you will not listen to us or the Lindens who have told you this prior. There is a big server upgrade in April but honestly that may only be a temporary fix if you and your neighbours on the SIM continue to overload it with yet more scripts. Regards, Warren Linden 1 - I never heard about this scripts before, to much scripts ... posible ofcourse.. but ... was he going to tell me that after sp2 install? and with this info do I have to find the scripts on my own he sais are running in the sim? how !! because 2 - I have no *living on the sim* neigbours just a store next door and a skybox ore 2.. its all on sale .. remember ? so .. 3 - now its my bad pc AND to many scripts on the sim... 4 - isnt realy a point but no linden ever told me my pc was bad.. Getting tiered , sad, agrivated and dissapointed in warren but I am not going to be send of like a silly little girl.. I am gathering ppl together that suffer lag on my land.. and ask them if they will help me report it.. so far I got some nice responces of ppl willing to try and help... If anybody reading this wants to help me ore if you just wanna come see how bad your pc's are.. drop by and if you find it is bad.. plz IM warren Linden with this information for me.. that would realy help me out Let me adress one more time that this is NOT A PERSONAL ISSUE, it is hapening to everybody on the land and is very bad !! so plz no more about my pc.. lol.. its a cuty and works realy hard for me all the time.. always on every sim.. land, internet pages (other) internet games... , broadcasting, photoshop and all other programs run.. *pets her pc , mamie loves you .. shhhh and the story continues....

I have found out the hard way that 512 is simply not enough! it takes 500MB RAM to be in sl (no walking ore building incl). your pc generates more RAM from your hard drive if you dont have that much so yes you could play but yes you would also freeze a lot and like you say have to drop down all prefs.. I been there, investigated and updated my PC just for that matter.. with 768 RAM i am playing smooth in all sims aswell.. not as smooth as you but realy wel.. also my new gforce video card helped me to raze my prefs a bit aswell.. I can even do local lighting now with no real issues.. thanks for the input .. it didnt realy help me but I totally agree that the info about the abillity to play sl with no trouble should state different If you wanna come try my sim with all your RAM on one of my events you will get to understand the sim trouble I am talking about a bit more...
