Changes to deeding estate-land to a group :(

On the chance that I don't understand the new functionality, I don't like the new estate land feature where land needs to be owned by the estate owner before being allowed to sub-divide or join parcels.

I thought that the idea of allowing others to deed land was supposed to make things easier for estate managers - this new feature does not really change things since the estate owner still needs to reclaim group-deeded land.

In my case, most of the land is deeded to a common group. I sometimes need to create new parcels using the common group land. To do that, I need to reclaim the group land, divide the land, and then re-deed what is left - a real headache!

How are estate owners managing their group-deeded estate land?

Estate owners and managers are dealing with this in the exact manner you describe: reclaiming, dividing/joining, then redeeding. A pain, no? Here's to hoping this "feature" will be reverted in the next revision.

In the meantime, I suggest you bug report the issue, per Torley's (I believe) suggestion to bug report features that do not work as expected, which is quite true in this case.

Thanks for your reply...I was starting to think that I did not understand this new 'feature'. I'll bug report it.

It is indeed a pain. Whereas before my residents were able to do this themselves, it is now something that only I can do :/

It's listed in the release notes, so I fear it is very much intentional, and not a bug. I haven't a clue why this decision has been made, though.

I am pretty sure, that no estate owner likes this feature and that LL will "correct" it in the next version.

I think the idea was to disallow private island tenants from slicing up their parcels and 'selling off' portions of them, without permission from the island owner.

I can honestly see how that could be a nightmarish mess also, though "Don't chop up the parcels!" might be something we could toss in the covenant just as easily.

Good point. They could disable resale capability on subdivided parcels.
