I've been getting upset because some people create multiple avs just for the camping purposes....and yes, they openly admit it. I couldn't find anything in the TOS, so I would like to find out if they are breaking terms of service or not.
Thanks

I have heard (read) that it might also be possible to buy scripts that emulate Av's ,park it on several camping chairs, and you can move freely around the region/sim while earning money

Chairs and Money Trees..............
Its getting so unreal!!!!!!!!!!! Is this what Philip Linden invisioned years after his dream came to life? I mean people bitch and screamed about dance clubs when it was in its peak of populatiry and it was Games people bitched about and then Then Money Trees then Money Chairs...........I mean LLabs seems to only care about adding people reguardless of the way people play. ( YES AFK sitting in money chairs for 24 hours at a time) This is just a sad sad period of time in this game. Its has lasted since last Aug 2005 to Now. With no hope of getting any better.......The SF meeting is in progress at the moment. I Wonder what those guys are thinking at this time.........Is it a good thing or bad? Man O`Man is there ever going to be a light at the end of the tunnel :(

When you're willing to pay for your traffic, to increase sales, popularity, or pull more into your club, you have to expect people will take advantage of it.

Now, I don't know if it is possible, but, seems that if a person could make a dance pad that only will pay you if you are less than XX days old, that device would immediately be a big draw to the people who are paying newbies some cash, in exchange for camping and increasing their traffic draw.

THe other item, would be to lower your payment. At some point, those in the game a while, will realize that there are better places to make money.

Personally one of the items I see that is a major drawback, is the lack of jobs for the male population. While almost any female player can get work in a moment, males often have a tougher job finding a place, that they can do, without either having a huge MP3 collection, or, already around a while, and comfortable with building or scripting. So, I think we've a one sided economy sometimes, and while that helps linden dollar sales, it makes it esaier to contemplate multiple av's to camp chairs in order to make a few dollars fast enough to buy some new clothes, or whatever.

Just a few pennies of thought...

It will be a great day for SL when there is some feature added that gives richer accounts a legitimate reason to hire other players who have little skill but who can still contribute somehow. I don't have an answer to this one, other than the job should some how save the richer player time yet still be worthwhile for the worker to do and fun enough to do without wanting to use scripts.

Chairs and Money Trees..............
Its getting so unreal!!!!!!!!!!!

A couple of clubs opened close to some of my land so I wanted to make a joke item.

I made a few "anti-dance" pads. These are like regular dance pads that pay people to stay but with a couple of interesting 'features':

* The hover text says "Earn L$0 every 10 minutes!!"
* The dance is the Chicken Dance :)
* The dance pad never pays anything
* When someone uses the dance pad, the hover text changes to "<name> has earned L$0 so far!" - and it stays like that

I wonder if any of the campers at the club will get the message - even if they don't...it is still pretty funny :)

MMmmmmMmmmmm Free Money to turn around and dump on the LindenX...

Thats life.. Blame Linden Labs for allowing Alt Accounts in the first place.
But don't expect that to change, or you might see a 50% reduction in population count.

50% try 75% or more........

Add................
I wonder how long money trees will be around. Since the farmers are out in numbers and only here for the cash.........I heard resently from a American gamer that there is gangs of chinese mining almost 24 hours a day in such games like SL. Is this the way this game is suppose to be played? Why is that LLabs has glorifed this action with the introduction of OPEN signups?............

Yea, get rid of camping chairs so nobody has any money to spend and sales fall.. Then people would have a more legitimate gripe that they can't sell anything and make any $ because many players have no money to spend.. That would be much more legitimate than listening to people gripe because person A gives person B money and person C who has nothing to do with it doesn't like it and wants to whine about it..

I rarely comment, but I remember months ago the talk was:

Get rid of the developer incentive, that will get rid of the camping chairs!
(didn't work)

Get rid of dwell bonus!! Getting rid of dwell will get rid of all the camping chairs!
(didn't work)

As soon as all the camping chairs disappear, I can hear it now:

"HELP! I'm not selling anything, nobody has any $ to spend, please bring back camping chairs!"

---

Really, just be thankful for every opportunity to make a few $ that someone is kind enough to offer. That money isn't coming from Linden Lab, it is coming out of an individual's pocket, you can't blame the Developer Incentive or Dwell anymore.

With the disappearance of Developer Incentives, Dwell Bonus, and Stipends:

A) These things no longer add money to the economy thus devaluing the L$. If person A wasn't giving the $ away he would sell it on the Lindex, camping chairs now probally keep $ in the economy and INCREASE the value of the L$.

B) There are now fewer ways for any player to make $, the need for camping chairs have INCREASED with these changes. (People wanted the DI, Traffic Bonus eliminated because they thought it would eliminate camping chairs. Wrong assumption. That hurt the "camping chair" use on the supply side [no more subsidies], but increased it on the demand side since there were much fewer sources of income).

----

"But camping chairs ruin the game!"

The above quote is one of the lamest arguements I've ever heard in this game (sorry, but its true, of the 100's of lame arguements I've seen, this is one of the lamest). I have yet to see a single legitimate fact to back up that claim that wasn't entirely self-serving. Only a handfull of people actually make that arguement, and a bunch of newbies who don't know any better seemingly take it as fact.

Quite frankly the few people who make such arguements are doing so for their own self-intrests. Or because they are too cheap or jaded on the issue to spend a few $ on the most efficient form of advertising this game has and do so in a responsible way.

Q: Why is it all the land for sale around all the places with camping chairs is so expensive?
A: Same reason why buying a land near Time Square is so expensive, because thats where the people are, and alot of people want the land to sell their wares in a high-traffic environment.
If your quiet little neighborhood just had a club open up in the sim and you don't like it, then sell your plot for twice what you bought it for, find yourself another cheap peice of land and spend the L$ on something nice. In real life people jump for joy when their real estate increases in value, only in SL do I actually see people complain about it..

Quite frankly 90% of people in the game would prefer to have a plot of land next to one of the most popular places in the game.. There is virtually not a single arguement that someone gives to say camping chairs are bad in which I can't point out an obvious benefit for the very same reason.

Tens of Thousands of USD are likely paid out by camping chairs every single month. I'm not sure people actually stop to consider all the effects it would have on the game if camping chairs were somehow magically eliminated.

So what if people just play for the $? Some people just play for the Gorean Role Playing, some people play just for the simulated sex, some people play just for whatever, who are you to judge someone who wants to make a few $ to eat? Playing just for the $ seems slightly more innocent than alot of other reasons people play this game.. Let people play for whatever reason they want, its none of your business..

To answer the original question though: I don't think it is against the TOS to use alts to camp as long as you provided accurate signup information.

Thank you for that wonderful monolouge!!! Couldn't have said it better myself!! :)

And further: How many people do you know that have enough CPUs AND enough bandwidth to keep more than one Avi in-world at a time?! I don't on either count.
I don't think very many other nOObs do either.

I'm still evaluating SL, and still learning the build tools, AND still learning LSL. I cannot make L$ any other way than camping! And, I'm not ready to commit USD$ to SL until I
find a legitimate niche that fits my personal interests and available time.

Sitting in a chair, and being conversational is about all I have time for right now. I feel fortunate that there is a mechanism that allows me to participate in-world, spread a few L$ around. There's no way I would participate if it were not possible to for me to "survive" in-world without spending RL$

So, take note anti-chair whiners... I'm not going to be spending any money in your establishments, ever.... even if I do decide to keep a USD$ funded presence in SL!

I have camping chairs, Dance pads, and a money tree. I have noticed lately there is these new groups that are just alts for these things. Camping Slave I think was one of the groups, you would go to thier profile and it would say "im a camping robot" Id go to my store and all my pads would be filled with these "Camping Slaves" aka alts that tell each other where the new good camping spot is at. They stopped coming after I changed my cut off to 30L.

Also there is a group called "Money Tree Pickers", they are alts also, I will see them every hour Tping right at my money tree. They won't talk to you. They will Tp in, pick and tp to the next tree.

I do have these things for traffic purposes but they could at least pretend thier not a group of alts that take advantage, so it doesn't piss me off. lol..oh well

Yeah and Linden Labs will just ignore your report and probably add you to the list of people who report insignificant things that they cannot and/or will not deal with, aka the ignore this person list.

What LL needs to implement is a way to ban people in specific groups of your choosing so there would be a "ban group" option or something. This wouldn't entirely get rid of the problem by any means and might due more harm than good in terms of blocking these guys since it would just make them harder to spot and pick out but it could also be a good tool to get rid of and ban an entire group of these people at once if they're consistently causing problems and are all in a single group.

I have always wondered why a lot of people put all the camping pads in one little spot, i figure if you are gonna do it, do it with style,

Spread the campers out around the property
Put them in store windows in a static pose like a display
or up on a pedestal next to or between stores,
let them create atmosphere

Then i have always wondered why malls in sl are strictly commercial, why not sell a little studio space above the place and let the person save home to that spot,
if the renter allows like 50 prims, the person might only need like 20 the rest can be a few chairs and a little home

then your renters also become traffic. with their constant coming and going

I have wanted to do this but it requires a lot more land than I have but some of the really pretty malls are sorta concrete gardens with campers,

a waterfall with a few apartments would be more community like.

just a thought
