What do you suppose might happen if all of a sudden many of the products currently available, or similar versions, became available completely free and with full permissions? Products such as models, weapons, vehicles and scripts of all detail, free for the taking by any citizen young or old, new or used.

Would you consider it copying or stealing - What if each item was made from scratch?
- Jolan Well it's pretty obvious to me that since not everyone would be making all of thier stuff open source someone would have to ahve stolen all the content, which ten gets you into theft of intellectual property and in some cases copyright infringement. Not a good idea and certainly not a legal way to destroy the SL economy.

- Jolan The need for L$ would be nil and there would be a massive selloff... A panic with the L$ falling below US$1.00=L$1000

"someone would have to have stolen all the content" ------------------ Does that mean that if a second script appeared that opened doors, flew realisticlly or held a large quantity of prims together would be illegal because the idea has been done already?

- Jolan Noooo...your oringal post was what if all the pay products suddenly becamse available for free. It said nothing about making fascimiles of same but rather grabbing the actual content itself and making those shall we say..liberated products free.

- Jolan I'll do like Microsoft(tm) : "ignore" (done) "say that free*(bee/software/etc) is communism" (done) "raise my price" (done) "FUD" (done) "crash and close my company" (coming soon(tm))

This has already been done .. there are lots of free scripts. The only problem is that
a) They are not maintained very well, upgrdae to upgrade b) They get little to no support c) They're hard to fine because nobody can afford to market them

Once the object-sellers were bankrupted and Lindenless because they have no sales... the only people selling L$'s would be the landlords and land sellers.
Those that survived the shake-out might actually be able to demand better prices for their L$'s.

a lot of land would be empty, many content creators fuel Linden Labs with the money they make by using it to pay their tiers.
With so much empty land and an abundance for sale soon the land barons would vanish leaving clubs with tons of stuff that is available to anyone so why go to a club if you have all the same stuff....
tis a silly idea, go buy L$ and shop

From: Jesrad Seraph Seconded, and thirded by my alternate personnality. Fourthed... I used to give a lot of my stuff away free, and one of my free products (which now appears to have an identical, very expensive clone by someone else) was the most popular of it's kind in world.
