I had an experience like this once, where I looked at the picture and the numbering on the webpage here, and looked at the parcel in game, and thought I knew what I was bididng on, but somehow, whether I made a mistake, or whether the picture was misleading, I wound up with the wrong lot, the one next to the one I had wanted. The auction can be confusing, and it is compounded by some items not having pictures at all, or very misleading pictures. This experience and a few others does indeed make me wonder sometimes if there is a "fixing" of the auction. I think you are right to be suspicious and take measures to challenge and investigate it, but not to the point where you assume there was deliberate malice -- there may not have been, and it is easy to make a mistake.

I looked at Cub a few days ago, saw it was divided into 4 pieces, and I don't recall any of those pieces as being exclusively under water, so it seems odd. And others who went to look at Cub should be asked now -- it seems there wasn't such a parcel or at least not the one you bid on.

I think at the very least, you should ask for a review. It's another reason to take a copy of the webpage at the time of the auction, which I do. What you should also have is the e-mail trail of the confirmations of bids. And that might help in terms of comparing numbers.

I think in the end, you can simply not collect an item you bid on. I'm not sure then if you get a refund or how that works, it is explained somewhere.

You could also think of reselling it because there seemed to be some interest in Cub.

I am confused

plots in world set for auction (the purples on yer terrain grid) will list an auction number, cut and paste that number into the plot links at the auction site to be sure you get what you want

I was sitting there for about 4 hours yesterday just going over numbers with the island and 002...the lot size changed and the #'s changed also...I do not want a plot thats DEEP under water:(
This happen to me in Champlain also...I had someone there with me and we both looked for over an hour there and then it was changed to inland lot. I lost money there as well. If it was not for the fact that this IS real money I'd blow it off...but it is REAL money:(

I wanted to assure everyone that the parcel size/shape/location in question has not been changed, altered, or reconfigured since the auction started on Feb. 2, and has not in fact been changed in any way since Jan. 31, when the land was parceled out for auctioning. Please note that land which has been released, but not yet officially been set to auction may change before going on the auction block. One way to avoid confusion would be to be sure to check the information located in the actual live auction page before bidding on any land you may have previously checked out in world.

To be sure, I had our webmaster go through the parcel log for the parcel in question (Cub 002) and he has assured me that since the auction began on Feb 2, this parcel has always been located at Cub (152,42) been 5216 m2, and been underwater.

Also, if you look at the photo on the auction page itself (available here: http://secondlife.com/auctions/auction-detail.php?id=0026196102) it's pretty clear that this parcel is under water.

I apologize for any confusion or inconvenience the misinterpretation of this auction may have caused. Please be assured you are always able to cancel any bids made in error in the auctions by sending an email to land@secondlife.com before the auction is closed. You can read more about our Auctions in the Auction FAQ here: https://secondlife.com/auctions/faq.php

Check on Champlain 18...it was switched...me and my partner sat there thinking about what we could do about the lot being split by water and then it changed to an inland lot.
You can say it wasn't all you want but it was...we saw it :(

"We didn't change the auction, or do anything untoward or sneaky, but we offer our apologies that you pushed the wrong button".

-giggles-

That apology was class, Jeska. All the way class.
