Could we consider Forum membership on par with SL membership?

Since Philip said we have just under 17,000 members, I am assuming that the 118,941 figure is everyone (and their ALTS) that have ever signed up.

It means that for every person who is a lifetime or paying member, there are five people who tried out SecondLife and didn't pay.

17,000 players and L$126,000,000 dollars in circulation equals $7400/per person. Thats a large increase from June'04 when the population was at 15,000 and the circ. was in the ballpark of L$70,000,000 or about L$4600 per person.

So when are the changes coming to allow folks to make L$ with a good business model?

Phillip said an average balance of L$7,400 per member was his economic target. Interestingly enough, the median balance per user was something like L$1,xxx. There seems to be a large discrepancy between those who have and those who have not.

How can Phillip maintain a target of (average) L$7,400 per member?

1. Subscription increases faster over all then the money supply
2. Create new taxes to take money out of circulation, if needed
3. Cut Welfare (i.e. Stipends)
4. Cut Dwellfare
5. Convert the ratio of USD$ to L$ auctions to cause the desired effect

What other ones can we come up with?

Alby .. didn't you read the town hall transcripts?

Jacq: everytime a new user joins, they add 7500 into the kitty(stipends) to get spread around.

I'm pretty sure that's what he was driving at.. other thoughts?

Ah, what I took away was that up to L$7,400 COULD be distributed at any given point. Not necessarily the instant they join. A Linden Dollar reserve, if you will.

So if money in circulation is tied to population, then getting population reports would be very important to track the flow of new money, or lack thereof.

Whats the link for the transcripts? I didn't see it and missed the party while I sipped Tea in England last week. Sure wish I was paid in Pounds Sterling instead of Linden Dollars. :)

Only if you have artistic talent. How about those with business savvy skills? Where is the Wall Street of SL? Not Broadway.

SecondLife's population and economy are still that of a small town. I think the change you are looking for is population growth of between one and two orders of magnitude.
