question: are the roads we see common ground (Linden land) or does each land owner agree to use part of his/her land to have a section of road on? and if publicly owned do they help increase the value of the land?

ah, I see, some land is considered more worthy from the git-go than others....

For some reason the Lindens replicated RL roads in this game, something I have never understood. When I first came here I thought it was stupid, they are just ugly, they take up space, and they take away users' creativity -- players could be building the roads.

I've been forced to concede that the roads are valuable, only because they are Linden-made objects on Governor Linden land, which means they will never change. That's golden. That makes roadside land often more valuable as a property border because it won't change and you can't be griefed on it or obstructed, even if it is kinda ugly to look at. And in some areas, it is considered more prime real estate for commercial ventures.

I kinda like the way there are different 'rules' around the SL grid, variety is a good thing! I sure as hell wouldn't want a road next to my lot! hello, I can fly!!!

I think if vehicles worked properly, roads would be cool.

I must be a dork or something as hatching the egg and riding my chicken is way more appealing than a replica of a vehicle....

I like rollerskating on the roads, if I have somewhere I want to be but no particular need to be there immediately.

And if I want to build something urban-esque, I tend to build by them since zoned metropolitan areas are pretty pricy, and you're guaranteed an urban-esque neighbor (Gov. Linden).

One thing I've noticed is that with some areas particularly infected by the disease of security scripts, the only way to travel through is on linden roads. This goes for boating, as well. I'd like to travel to my destination unmolested by bullshit security scripts, and the only near-guaranteed way to do that is to travel on Linden pathways.

Last night I sailed from my home in Vaoetere to the new continent by the way of Paikea. Since I can now see the parcel borders underwater from above, I promptly made a habit of sailing only in Linden territory. I became more thankful for this as I noticed banlines on properties. It was especially bad in Aluluei, where I could barely fit my boat between two walls cheerfully repeating "NO ENTRY". Such happy and sociable folk in a happy and sociable virtual world as Second Life! =D

Anyway, at least the waterways look alright. Sand and water. I wish the actual roads would look nicer, like the ones on the new continent (or the Grignano area). But with all the nasty lag, a vehicle practically has to depend on sliding along the guardrails to get anywhere without running off the road and into asshole security script territory.

ANd those fucking "you requested to be teleported to blah blah" scripts you accidently fly over, THAT should get you banned from the game..

I think it would be awsome if the vehicles worked properly to be able to frive on them. It would be like a road trip.
