I had recently got a piece of land from my RL hubby for L$1. Becos it did not meet my needs, I had decided to put it up for sale. Being new to this, I made the mistake of clicking the sell check box before changing the sale price of the land. Before I could even change the price, someone had already purchased and paid L$1 for it.
I was really upset at myself for this but am really disappointed that I did not see a confirmation of the sale price before the land was listed. It is scary to think you could loose your property with just one click of a button. Also, the person who bought the land was not even online and I could not get a response from him/her about my mistake.
I reported this but it seems we are supposed to deal with problems like this ourselves. That I agree but I am suspecting that there are people out there waiting to pounce on mistakes like that and who is to police that?
This is just to inform new users of problems like that and to be aware. I am now hesitant to even own land anymore.

I very much doubt you'll get a resolution from LL about this - based on people who've reported similar things in the past - as deciding whether somebody just changed their mind later about the price isn't something they want to get into. It's pretty evil behaviour to buy land where somebody's clearly just made a mistake, though, sure.
(The other one that new sellers do is try to sell something for L$1 to a specific other person as a land swap, but put it up for sale before they enter the name in the "sell to" box.)
There is a confirm box IIRC, but I don't think it mentions the price.

ANOTHER box pops up explaining the details you've set and asking if you are SURE. In other words, you must agree that you are REALLY selling your land for L$1 not once but TWICE before it goes on the market.

Yeah there's always a confirmation box that asks if you really want to sell at that price. It's imprtant to always do things in the right order to avoid mistakes, if someone is hitting refresh on land sales they'll be they'll be there instantly. That being said, most people that trade land always sort out errors... you've been unlucky there.

Being new to this, I made the mistake of clicking the sell check box before changing the sale price of the land. Before I could even change the price, someone had already purchased and paid L$1 for it. I havent been in SL for long yet, but have seen this happen many many times. Just last week I purchased 3-512 plots for $1L per meter. Although don't take this one persons actions as what will happen every time. Some of us truely are honest people and good people. I bought a 1500 meter plot a couple months ago that the owner had just put up for sale. She was still on the property when I bought it because I saw the low price and grabbed it up quick. When she saw how quick it sold we started talking and come to find out she missed adding a 0 to the selling price making the 1500 meter plot sell for 500 instead of the 5000 L she really wanted. I promplty sold the plot back to her at the same price I bought it for and then offered her 7k for the same plot she was asking 5k for. I still made a profit off the land by buying a few adjacent lots and splitting them up equally. I still ended up making $5000L off the deal and was honest enough not to rip her off by her own mistake. So don't let this one persons actions ruin it for you land ownership in SL is great and not everyone is out to rip you off. There does need to be some kind of information somewhere that newbies can find out about land sales and rentals maybe something to add the the Wiki???

In the 4/4/06 edition of the M2 I have a pretty comprehensive article on land for newbies. I can check with da boss whether it's okay to add to the wiki but I'm happy to drop a copy on anyone who wants one--just IM me inworld.
