Group Liability questions

Could someone tell me what Group Liability is and how it works?

Yesterday, I suddenly got -24 L for Group Liability in my Account History. On any other day, the Group Dividend was only around 3-6 L, so why is the Liability suddenly so much more than what the Dividends were? Why would the Group give Dividends at all with so much Liability coming?

Also, I think there needs to be some kind of warning about this in Group Info so that people know what they might be getting into when they join a particular group. That's almost half a weekly stipend for Basic Members, which would be quite a blow to a new SL user.

Apologies if this isn't the right place to post this, I was guessing it has to do with Land because Dividends come from Land traffic, as I understand it.

Usually the group liability is for parcel directory fees on group owned land.

If you receive 3-6L each day over a week, you get between 21L and 42L in that week. Then after receiving that amount you are required to pay 24L. So the worst case for you is a loss of 3L and best case senerio is you gain 18L. Not a big deal either way.

You can buy 1000L for US$3.50

Thanks for the quick response!

I still don't quite understand where the Liability comes from, though. Could you explain what is causing the Group to have Liability? Do all groups have Liability? If you could spell it out for me like I know absolutely nothing, that would be perfect. ;)

If your group land is set to be displayed in the find directory, there is a weekly fee for this. I believe classified listings work the same way. The total of these weekly fees divided by the total number of group members should total that weeks liability for eah of the group members.

(Listing Fees + Classified Fees) / Group members = Individual share of group liability.

Ahh, thank you, now I get it. I had no idea it cost something to be displayed in the Find directory. Now I'll look for information on whether that's a Flat Rate Fee or scaled by size/traffic/whatever. Thanks again for the help! (:
