A few weeks ago there was a discussion regarding telehubs and the types of shopping malls built around them. One of the participants posted photo's of a poorly designed mall, and an orderly nicer looking mall. Does anyone remember this discussion, and who the participants were?
Thanks.

Philo, if you're interested in seeing a really good looking mall, check the Collection at Garrison. The white Gigas mall there is pleasant too, in a different style. The difference between these well-designed malls and the stall type malls is much greater than the differences between various flavors of stall type malls.

The Collection at Garrison and GIGAS are really excellent architectural triumphs. Both look really good. They are landmark buildings in SL.
Both fall down on the job of actually being useful.
Both have trouble with making entrances marked clearly so that flyers can find how to get in qiuckly, with a variety of ways of doing so (the Collection is more openly constructed but still confusing as it is rezzing).
Both these malls would benefit greatly from a director of tenants. This is hard to do, hard to keep updated, but would be a huge service. I personally actually spent 30 minutes looking for Juro Kothari's store inside his own mall (he is the architect of this Collection. You had to guess to walk through somebody else's store first, etc.
Malls don't rez fast sometimes. When they do, they can still be unhelpful. They need signs and teleporters to get people around.

Thanks for the feedback, Prokofy, I'm always looking for ways to improve exposure and ease-of-use. In setting up The Collection, I talked with quite a few merchants and also quite a few customers to get some feedback on usability, etc.
Maybe when I have more time to launch additional prefab homes, I'll put up my very own shop in the mall, but since I wanted to keep the mall on the small side, I put my stuff into Cyrus Designs (Cy and I are partners on this venture) and leave more room for other merchants.

Your decision to leave more space for your merchants in your successful mall so that they can have more to full -- and they do fill it -- is laudable.
But if someone goes to your mall they hope to find you, and they could do that easier with signs.
I'm for buildings being functional, and not just sculptures or vanity towers.
I do appreciate your taking this as constructive criticism. It is indended that way, and not as a flame.
I'd also suggest to Philo that he take a look at the malls I've commissioned. They are creative and do the job well. They are the Pharos Lighthouse and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon made by SuLuMor Romulis in Ross and Refugio, and the Aztecha Sky Temple in Columbia, and Ravenglass Market in Ravenglass/Carlisle made by Foolish Frost.
