I am new to SL and I have a question about Group Land. I have bought land right next to my group member. Now i set it to group land and we tried linking them and it fails. My question is: "Can this be done?". Our goal is to build a store across these two parcels(512m each). I would really appreciate any info anyone can provide. Thanks

Doing this from memory, and it's just a rough sketch of the process. Perhaps someone will be able to fine-tune or correct what I'm about to say:

Preconditions:

- Person A owns Plot 1.

- Person B owns Plot 2.

- Both A and B are both part of "myGroup", and Either A or B *must* be an officer of the group. It's also okay if both are officers of the group.

Process for merging plots 1 and 2:

1. Make sure both plots are set to SHARE with myGroup.

2. Person A uses the Deed to Group feature to deed their 512 plot, WITH CONTRIBUTION, to myGroup. Specifically:

a) Right-click the land and choose About Land.
b) In the first tab, click on Group Set... and select the group.
c) Check Allow Deed To Group, then Owner Makes Contribution With Deed.
d) Click on Deed....

3. Person B uses the Deed to Group feature to deed their 512 plot, with contribution, to myGroup.

At this point, myGroup is the owner of both plots, but the plots are still separate. They still have their original borders. Nobody pays any extra tier. A's 512 allocation and B's 512 allocation have been "contributed" to myGroup.

4. Merge the two plots as follows, to make them one plot and share the total prim count:

a) Have an officer of myGroup stand near the border between the two plots
b) The officer Edits the land and clicks the option that enables them to "select land".
c) drag a little selection square across the two sides of the border. Just a little one; you don't have to both plots in their entirety. As long as the resulting selection square spans across the border, you're ready for the next step.
d) Find the button that lets you MERGE the selected land, and click it.

After you've done this, you'll have a single 1024m2 plot with 234 prims available. It's owned by the group. Any officer of the group can sell the plot of land, and if they do, the money will be split equally among ALL members of the group, not just the officers. So kick everyone except the people who've actually contributed land allocs to the group before you sell it off.

Hope that helps.

Very good explanation, especially if you're doing this from memory. I couldn't have done it any better. I do believe the last step is "JOIN", I'm not sure but I seem to remember join not merge. Hope I'm not intruding.

The most successful software company in the world does a piss-poor job on all these points. Particularly the first three. Why do you expect Linden Labs to do any better?
Yes, it's true, I have a blog now!

LOL I write software manuals for a living so it took me like 15 minutes. And yes, the button or command might be "join" instead of "merge".
