Q: Picky About Choosing First Land

I have a question about the process of getting a premium account and choosing your initial, discounted-price First Land parcel of 512 m2. How long are you allowed to take to choose your First land?

I'm wondering if you don't particularly care for the location of any of the available First Land parcels...can you wait for weeks and weeks until the perfect little parcel comes along? :-)

Thanks.

Yes you are allowed to wait! I did and got a much better peice of first land for doing so!

see this thread for my experiences:

Same here. I waited. I think I waited 2 weeks.

I wanted a PG plot and everytime there was one available it was all Mature.

I waited. It came. I bought. I'm happy with it.

You can have the most beautiful peice of land, but if your neighbours suck, you will not like the land as much. Where I moved my neighbour was really nice for the first few days, then all of a sudden banned me from his parcel and stopped chatting with me. Very odd and now annoying as I can't fly over that land anymore.

Sigh... Sometimes I wish you could only limit up to a certian height. It sucks having to fly through an invisible maze of 12 lots to get 3 lots over.

Personally, I'd buy any old plot (some are nicer than others of course), play with it a few weeks to see how building works and all the land tools, etc, until the neighborhood is so full of newbie houses that its too laggy to work, and then turn around and sell for a big mark-up. You're paying L$1/m for First land... sell it for L$5/m and make a huge profit, then buy a new plot in a more desireable location.

In response to Ghoti,

if you wait until you get a desirable patch of first land, then you can still sell it in the future, and make more of a profit than if you bought a relatively undesirable section of first land.

As for waiting, you might as well give it a try, until you are too desperate to wait any longer.

I was forced to wait, because my UK bank account had to pay into PayPal. Inconvenient at the time, but when I actually got the money through a section of first land had just appeared in Pyong Ya over looking a largely empty sim. So me very happy.

You can wait as long as you need to, just don't buy any other land before buying your First Land. I did way back when and was then no longer eligible for the reduced/subsidized First Land.

I was looking for first land the last couple days and there just wasn't any good land to choose from. There was plenty of land but it was just surrounded by ugly buildings and ugly signs and what's with every other house haveing a security ban thing up? Makes it so I couldn't even look around for land at all because I was getting bounced around all over the sim from these big red "do not enter" things.

Now, there just isn't any first land at all to choose from. How often do they make first land available? Must I wait weeks or months to even get a chance again?

I decided to do this. The problem is that my land isn't very desirable to buy as a result. I did put it up for sale immediately. It has been useful as I've built on it, learning the ropes. Wish I could flog it and move on though!

Having said that it is totally flat, which wasn't the case with other first land available. Perhaps first land is always hard to sell on. It is small, there's not a lot you can do with it and the surroundings are usually quite unattractive.

Thanks for the responses, all..and that was a good link to another thread, Alice.

I'm glad to hear that you can wait to choose your First Land. I've been looking at the current First land offerings down on the southern-most continent, but it is all land-locked and roadless. (I might just talk myself into signing up for a Premium Account, yet. :-)

I helped a friend try to look for first land last night. It was a pathetic experience.

They teleported to the first two parcels they found in Search, immediately dismissed them as "extremely ugly", and then called me in to look at a third, which was the only vaguely promising one so far. I was apallled at what I saw when I teleported to her 'promising' lot. It was surrounded by ugly, badly textured and cluttered builds, and was so close to a laggy, particle-spewing club that we were constantly getting audio spam from their automated entry greeting script, while standing on the proposed First Land parcel. I begged her to wait, and flatly told her I wouldn't have even paid L$1 per M2 for such a crummy scrap of land.

We left, and she kept searching. 5 minutes later, Search no longer showed any of the undesirable parcels. No First Land open by then at all...

I don't understand why the Lindens have so little First Land available, or why the new Premium account holders are being offered only such ugly, poorly-situated dregs. What I saw certainly didn't encourage me to even consider going Premium myself.

This corresponds with my experience looking for first land last week. Even though I'm not happy with it I'm glad I bought it if the land is equally poor this week. At least I've built a small gallery on it and learnt a lot. People waiting for that desirable piece of 512sq/m might be without land a long time.

I waited to buy my first land also. Almost 2 months! I finaly bought a nice flat parcel in a PG sim next to LL protected land. I stayed for a few months until I just "had" to have more prims.

I am also currently helping a friend look for first land. We missed some protected waterfront parcels by just a few hours :( .... but more will come up I am sure. Just have to be online at the right time.

Good luck!

First land is just that... First, you never get to buy again at that rate
