Land Unused in Blumfield...?

This is NOT a gripe...just a pondering question :-)

While doing my normal fly about in Blumfield recently, since I live there and lately I've been looking for more land...

I noticed that the plot next door to a double lot that I own, has been abandoned for quite some time by it's owner, who while doing a search no longer shows up as being a member...

I inquired about this plot and was informed that land in Blumfield and W. Haven is no longer available for sale by SL...only private sales by the owner.

Molly Montale pointed out to me, that the land across from her that was never used, has now become Governor Linden land...a whole 512m plot... So there goes my hopes for my triple plot. LOL!

My question is... If unused plots become Linden property and can't be sold, wouldn't they rather have people upgrade their tier rather than let the land go unused? Just a question...and I thought maybe someone here has a logical answer. Thanks for your replies in advance :-)

The "can't be sold part" is an assumption, imo. Land which is owned by Guv Linden can be in a holding pattern prior to its sale or release as a first land parcel as opposed to being dedicated public land (my understanding is that about 15% of any given sim is set aside for maintenance). I'm not sure about the time intervals associated processing abandoned land but it has never been turned as quickly as residents interested in buying it would like to see. You have a unique situation with the development of these sims and are now more than likely subject to the general conditions in SL where a system of assuring that abandoned land is made available first to neighbors in the sim is not an option. Keep in mind that LL seeks to minimize the personnel it devotes to land management. My guess is that abandoned 512's would eventually show up as recycled First Land but that is definitely just a guess on my part.

See the messages collected here for why LL may be leaving more land in a holding pattern for the moment.

Well...that surely was a good and logical answer. Thanks for the reply :-) The land in Blumfield WAS supposed to become first land right after the initial sales and distributions to its new owners who upgraded to a premium account. Fortunately we were able to purchase some of the land not used, before the deadline to upgrade had arrived. Now that people have left and let their membership run out, we're seeing new parcels of land showing up abandoned...and today, right after I posted this, that plot next door to my two plots became Linden government property. So ends my questions and now makes my own land seem a lot less desirable to me.

That certainly is very unfortunate. It seems a little off the wall for people who want to make money...sigh.

I'm not entirely sure I was in the same situation, but I think I was - I had Linden-owned land that had been previously abandoned that was now not available for buying, just to the old owner (apparently).

I reported it and eventually it was fixed, went back to first land. Took a long time though. I suspect that now, they may be doing it differently.

Honestly I don't know how they do things in LL, but by NOT selling land that people want, that's right around or next to the property they already own is silly in my book. Someone mentioned to me that they may be wanting to save the prim usage due to lag...but something tells me this isn't the case now that I'm hearing this story from you and other people.

I don't think it's deliberate. I think they really didn't realise what was going on, at least judging by the Lindens I talked to. Eventually one did come and fix it, but it took a while, and I expect that the next person to investigate will take just as long to work things out.

It is stupid though. There are just random plots of empty land here now. They should be put up for auction; they were once first land, but they're not any more, and the area has changed rather a lot and a newbie would find themselves sandwiched in between other developments.

If the empty plots suddenly become available as first land or even worse...to anyone before we see it for sale...we could be the ones sandwiched in. I hope your situaion is fixed soon.
