"ROYERSFORD, PA -- (April 1, 2006) -- Virtuatrade, LLC, creator of the Second Life-integrated commerce portal SLExchange.com, announced today that it has reached an agreement with Linden Research, Inc., maker of the online virtual world Second Life, where SLExchange.com will become the official central bank of Second Life and will have complete administrative control over the Linden Dollar.
"I believe this is a huge step toward the 'Your World. Your Imagination.' philosophy," said Philip Rosedale, Founder and CEO of Linden Lab. "Permanently releasing control of Second Life's official currency to the residents is something I feel is necessary for the continued expansion and evolution of the Second Life economy. Once you hear what SL Exchange plans for the Linden Dollar, I think you'll agree."
Effective immediately, the Linden Dollar will be called the "slex". Some may prefer to call it "$lex" or even "m4d 13wt5" (already a common name), but its official name will be "slex". The currency will carry forward the same value as the Linden Dollar for the time being. In a few months, we will introduce a RPG-style work-income system where avatars can be paid with slex in clubs and cities containing red light districts.
Anonymous quotes heard shortly after today's announcement:
"Oh yes, I definitely prefer being paid in slex versus Lindens."
"Can I still pay my tier with slex?"
"I'd do just about anything for slex!"
"You could just buy slex on the market instead of waiting until the right time..."
"Put your slex where your mouth is..."
"Slex. It makes the world go around.""
