L$ suits me fine...it's not a world currency.

However, forced to pick one at gunpoint, I suppose it'd be LND :)

Don't the L$ act as a currency sign and not a currency code (like $ or €)?
Thus for accouting we would use e.g. L$ 100'000 LND and not 100'000 L$

I have to agree with the others.

LND

The dollars are already called Lindens. No reason to introduce SL, Second Life, into it. They are Linden Dollars. LND's. No question.

Actually, they are Second Life Lindens. So, SLL would be the most fitting.

L$, but my runner up is SLL... does depend upon the context though.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!
LND is probably the best choice.
I oversaw that SLL is already an ISO 3 digits code - the one for Sierra Leone leone.

Since SLL is taken, I think LND is the best choice as a shortening of Linden. Normally the country is shortened when you don't use two letters for the country and one for the currency like Mexican Peso being MXN, but I have no idea what would be a good shortening of Second Life.

Are you going to try to register the code with the ISO?

No, however I'd prefere to avoid confusion with ISO standards :)

How about L3 (Linden Labs Lindens)

Too redundant?
Ok..Why don't we just trade rocks? Then we can all make them ;)

L$ is correct. It stands for "Linden Dollar." Don't complicate things.

L$

Anything else is like calling SL 2L. Wrong.

Because LL is too lazy a currency amount the right way.
It should be [Symbol] Amount [ISO Code]
e.g.
$ 5.00 USD
L$ 5,000.00 LND
L$ 5'000.00 LND
L$ 5'000 LND

but LL uses US$ 5.00, $5.00 or L$10,000...

I would wonder if it would be possible to actually offically change the name from "Linden Dollar" to "Linden" simply on the basis of common usage. I've never seen anyone use the words "Linden Dollars" in world, but some folks use just "dollars" which causes confusion between L$ and US$, and the presence of the dollar sign means that new people sometimes make the same mistake.

In that case, L$ as the standard abbreviation would be replaced with Li or Lin, and the currency symbol would be SLI.
