Sell the Teen SLers as meat.
Just kidding. Any Swift fans in the crowd? This is actually a serious economic idea that doesn't at all involve resident cannibalism. In light of recent corporate media interest in SL (looking at you, Fox and Sony), what if companies could pay/ be payed by (I don't know how merchandising and advertising work together and I'll admit that) Linden Labs to release products from a new movie/tv show/band etc in world.
Basically, some Lindens would be given images or what have you by a company, for the anecdotal film X-Men 3.1. LL would then release movie posters, t-shirts, models, even recreations of costumes from X-Men 3.1 in a special Linden-run store. People pay L$ to acquire these various types of promotional merchandise, and the store acts as, in fact, a sink, rather than a for-profit venue. With enough interest from companies, a large store with a variety of different items could be produced. People are always looking for costumes for characters they like, and posters are simple to make, so why not mix the powers of object creation with the powers of corporate sponsorship and popular culture?
