There is more to SL than Clubs. But feeble minds can't see beyond the flashing lights.

Clubs will continue to be a focal point. They will simply be fewer and better.

I tried riding through a clubless sim on a motorbike today..Was very nice..No lag..Past dusty vendors..Empty streets..No traffic..No music..Just the deathly silence..Some very beautifull Beta builds though.. I think i shall go back and try it with wings..or better yet..i'll goto a sandbox and get chased about by one of Lances antigrav followbelts that has been retooled into a giant smoking Human Phallus..That'll be fun..Mebee you will be there talking about newbs and rezzing stuff for own amusement. I mean..If I loved myself as much as you seem to. I could occupy myself for weeks just doing that. Would prolly shortly thereafter commit myself or take a hot bath with a nice sharp razor. Who knows.Theres always bingo. Or is that on the Albys list of things not "Geek" enough to be in SL? Howard hughes..Was all about the Bling bling Baby..Died alone in a Las Vegas hotel Room..Rich.

Amy, if you *actually* get out of the clubs once in a while ,you would see that this post-apocalyptic styled scene is not the case 99% of the time.

Get your head out of your ass.

Agreed. As I said in another post, I believe that the current situation has resulted in a lot of fairly lame clubs, all with the same pointless contests and ever-present moneyballs. I would really like to see some social innovations, and stripping away some of their subsistence will help shake out the market.

Gotta go..See you in sl hell..:)

You had a slight chance of making a viable point, untill this.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that I think you are over simplifying Club Owners and Clubbers. They are here to have fun, and they DO!

I don't think we, as a community, should look down at socializers. Hell, I'm a socializer that doesn't get out much, what does that say about me? These are people who love to hang out and laugh and dance the night away in an SL club. Why is that wrong? It really isn't.

From the day I started in SL, I was more of a socializer because I had no skills. And after a year and a bit...I don't really have any discernable skills. :) But I've done ok. I shop a lot, for sure. But I know, if money gets tight, that I *can* make my own things. I know I've learned enough about SL (building, clothing, textures) that'd I can live without spending money. Sure, it's easier to buy products that are better than mine, but that's not the point.

Those who consider themselves only socializers or event hosters or event attendees should put a little bit more faith in themselves. :) You can do it too! It just takes practice and a little bit of patience. Don't expect to be the best in your "field" over night, but doing is learning. I encourage anyone and everyone to just try. You might be surprised what skill you have and don't know about. :D

I would not agree with the original thread title, and I certainly wouldnt want to see all clubs vanish forever. They are an important social hub for some. And for another thing, have you actually seen the Gravity SpaceStation club? It rocks. Seriously. It is one of the single best things in SL, the whole experience. And I say that as someone who doesnt go to clubs. But I recognise when something is extremely well done, even if it's not my thing.

What IS wrong is that Clubs are just dwell traps. What IS wrong is that people are enticed to events by the lure of free money etc and the clubs cater to this lowest common denominator.

It should be the other way round... you should PAY to get entertainment value. However... that isnt going to happen all the while a club is just a giant dwell trap. Clubs need to get exponentially better if they are to survive. They need to provide a better all round experience that makes people want to visit them; and hopefully pay a small cover fee to do so.

Most wont survive, and that cant be a bad thing. But to say all clubs are bad because the majority are crap is wrong.

ALL clubs, crappy or quality, are a drive for the economy and provide jobs, helping cash flow and change hands. If most won't survive, economy will considerably slow down,m if not grind to an halt. We should begin thinking about the indirect consequences of things and not only the most evident outcome. Economy is a big monster, messing with it without considering what happens in the background is VERY VERY dangerous.

I disagree.

While we settle for the mediocre and the simplest thing you can do in second life to earn a buck, we'll have clubs every hundred meters providing mediocre entertainment for bored people who have nowhere better to go. If the economy forces people to rethink, they will have to compete with more original more interesting content, and the quality and interest of second life for all will go up.

If people aren't interested in improving, and want to just wallow in cloned clubs and mediocrity we have now, then no, things will never get better, economy or content wise.

I don't know about you, but I'd REALLY like to see some more engaging and interesting things to do than go to one of 100 clubs that all look the same and turn on your dance bracelet. *shrug*

Come to CLUB AHERN! Open 24 hours a day!

LINDEN SUPPORTED! Well, Nigel and Jill, and sometimes even Char, show up a lot. Does that count?

I go to clubs...I have fun. I host events...I have fun. I DJ...I have fun. I learn how to use buildings tools...I have fun. I socialize...I have fun. I spend the entire day making a couch nobody will buy...I have fun. Sometimes I'm loaded with Lindens, sometimes I have 98L$ to my avvie name...and I still have fun. The moment it stops being fun, I'll stop playing and move on. I won't spend hours of my time sitting here in a forum bitching about what I seem to really have no control over or berating others for having their own opinions. No one makes any of us play here. However, I do agree that socializing, in whatever form it takes, is a major part of the SL experience for a majority of the people who play and the "fluff events" provide a great outlet for the need to mingle and be with other people in a purely unresponsible and frivolous manner. Funny, how the people I see bitching about the club events are the ones who are always alone being "artistic"...wonder how they can even have an informed opinion if they're never there.

I agree. I am not a huge club goer either it is something I have enjoyed in my past as a DJ in SL. But wheher it's club or any other event if you offer an enjoyable environment with activities people like I think they should & would be willing to pay for it. The times of "$ for nothing" needs to be over & don't get me started on dwell traps..LOL

Again, I agree. This goes for other events as well IMO.

Ok. I have a rather odd question. Perhaps I should be directing this to the Lindens and not to the general forum. But perhaps it is a question that should be asked anyhoo. Who actually "Gets" that 25L I have to pay to rate Alby for his uber cool painted rainbow? Does it dissapear? Does it go into the SL social Security fund? Does it get secreted into Phillip Lindens super secret Bahama Vacation fund? Where exactally does that money go? Was not even interested when it was a measly 1L..But..Seeing as how they have raised the price of admiration by 2500% I have grown suddenly curious. Think about that 2500%..What if gas did that? Would you ask? Any responses positive or otherwise would be appreciated.

Feel free to move if this is not the appropriate venue. Is a bit off topic I suppose.
