Will it balance out? Or slightly in favor of islands?
Pros
-> Flyover traffic is no longer be important. Islands will be on par with mainland. Stores can be anywhere as people will just "teleport" to them.
Cons
-> People buy into islands for telehub access, which is no longer important.

Are you trying to get as many threads on the Land and the Economy forum as possible?

From: blaze Spinnaker -> People buy into islands for telehub access, which is no longer important. If I bought an island, it would be for the managability attributes. Ownership of all the land so I could control what was built would be a nice feature, not to mention the terraforming capabilities. Telehub was a nice plus, but not my major reason for purchase.

I positively hate the land-locked sims and their malls, they're laggy, nightmarish places that function as traps (and very rarely get my dwell, arrive, fly straight up and out and don't spend my 5 minutes there for my share of the dwell.
Shops arrayed further from a hub are more likely to get my custom even now, simply because when I get there I've got a chance to actually see what I'm buying and move around.
Island sims, one or two, suffer this lag issue too. Most, even if they're 'shopping islands' are better controlled than that and load more quickly - presumably because the owners sort them out and do control them.
When p2p comes in it just makes things easier for me to shop, and makes the shopping experience more fun. That's good for everyone except the landowners, and just possibly the internet based shops. I spend money more freely because I can find the shops I want faster and more easily.
I know telehub land has been stupidly expensively, but to be honest I don't care, it's never, to my knowledge, been sold as more expensive by the Linden's directly. They put mainland sims up for US$1,000 and the market price is set by how much those who which to buy the sim. If they pay more for a telehub, well they won't be any more, but it was there choices to bid that high.
Affecting island values - probably very little. They're a fixed price from LL after all.

I guess I meant demand. It's been my contention that LL is attempting to devalue islands because the mainland is their business focus. However, I think removing P2P will defocus the mainland, each sim will become almost an island in itself. What will the advantage of the mainland be over the islands? Nothing, as far as I can see. It's an interesting change as it makes me question the long term LL strategy. One possibility is that the removal of telehubs is in response to grid attacks. They want the ability to turn off sim border crossing at a moments notice, and the ability to teleport anywhere would allow that.

I think the estate tools still represent a great value, even though they are somewhat limited there is from what i understand plans for improvment. Being on an island mean that you are effectively setting everybodys drawdistance and therefore will increase there fps so lag will seem lower, and also on the edge of the sim fps will be even higher The main estate tools i was refering to was the terraform capability of 100m as well as setting all 4 land textures with their height values to totally configure the landscape, you can also set the water height, as well as set the sim sun to either a fixed time or follow the normal pattern. There is a few more access controls like more than one group as well as av's, and even the opposide of banning av's and totally hiding the island. You can also increase your agent limit on a private estate as you see on places like icedragon where ive seen 88 av's so far, probably have been more there considering todays traffic record.

i think illands will become more popular as the mainland becomes a jumbled mess (yes worse then it is now) as there will be no focus points for comercial builds anymore, the mainland will lose alot of its appeal
