GOM is up to $4.10

Yes, ladies and gents, the GOM is up to $4.10/1000 LL and even $4.11.

And what is interesting is there are GIANT packets of $100,000, at least three of them in the nearest queue, and lots of 40s and 50s. So will it go down again? Or???

This is all due to the new continent activity. I don't think it's due to Charlotte having computer problems.

I think barons are cashing out as the new continent comes in line to position themselves not to be the losers. Nobody much will be buying their old devalued laggy stock in the old world. Except me, for prims and for bargains maybe LOL.

Meanwhile, the GOM will continue to climb because newbs and oldbs will go on buying on the GOM even at higher rates to position themselves to buy new land on the new continents. What's not to like? Except my tier bill for all my devalued land, but whatever ROFLMAO. This is sure an entertaining game, never a dull moment.

There will be some oldbies who will be proud and remain on their old, tilled sims they spent young fortunes on, scheming and pleading with idiots and paying ridiculous sums to get rid of griefers and get plots that are contiguous. But already I do hear the giant sucking sound of people selling out and heading out with Huck to the High Country.

I just can't help feeling it will be like Dragon's Cove. Where's Tigger? I give it 30-90 days. Then there will be bargains in the old country to be had and prices will go back up there.

There isn't a barrier keeping griefers and idiots out the new continent...

No, and with all that newbie first-land postage-stamp sheets in the middle of every sim, just like always, with only some waterfront, with long strips of griefer water primed and waiting gleaming in the sun for every idiot white cubester to block off expensive waterfront on the mainland, and with the usual asswipes putting giant Orbs and spaceships over land to block it four ways so they can claim it at their leisure, why, I expect the worst.

That griefer water just makes me furious. How dare they! Please do not bid or buy the waters stripped and parceled like that unless you plan to have a modicum of respect for your neighbours' view. It's an invitation to idiocy, and I condemn the Lindens for parceling and auctioning plots of water in that fashion -- what I see parcelled that way in the new continent is the worst I've ever seen anywhere and it is to be deplored.

The flatness of the land will ensure that we will all have to stare at idiot boxes for many months to come -- no mountains to break up the landscape that I can see but I couldn't see all of it due to flying problems.

There were plenty of people who spent a lot of money on new land back when the snow sims came online, too. The new northern continent is "the next big thing" right now, and you're right, Prokofy, the hype and excitement is high. I've succumbed to the hype of new land before, but now I'm far more laid back about it all.

I love my plot in Miramare with double prims which I bought on auction a year ago; I have no reason to leave, especially since I'm fairly close to the Dore Welcome Area that is being newly developed, and I have good, long-term neighbors. I also have land in a few other well-chosen spots around the SL world. I have come to the realization that I will probably never want to pay for and maintain 1) land in every "regional area" in SL or 2) a private island or whole sim.

You're right about the fun in watching the furor over it all, though. I'm also half-way expecting some big media blitz by LL since 1.6 is soon to be released, as well.

Well, I currently do not do either as well, though I am renting part of an island sim and rather happy with it. Though if a group asked, I'd be willing to help finance an island for a period of time (preferably a PG one).

Heh, I'd put money on that one for sure. I suspect that LL will hope that the expected influx of new (and perhaps returning) players will offset the GOM rise we see currently. If not, they may make more monetary changes...

IIRC Phil said they're target is US$4, so I suspect they'll look into 'corrective measures' if it continues to head toward US$4.5. I will not guess as to how, but things could get interesting.

That means LL has to crank up the L$ Printing Machine which can potentially lead to Inflation if not done "slowly" over time. If they just wake up one day and decided to crank out a couple million L$, it could do more damage than its trying to solve.

Follow the Greenspan model.. Slow and steady.

GOM is up to $4.15 now today! Wow. And all those $100,000 packets are GONE.

Land barons are liquidating and cashing out even what they sold at a "loss" for higher Linden prices, what's not to like? They are preparing to buy up the new land tracts. Newbies and oldbies are buying on GOM to be able to buy the new land tracts.

I don't think it's that suddenly everybody just *had* to have a $4000 roadkill skin.

Which land barons are selling at a loss and where is this cheap land for sale?

Agreed. Though I'm only a UNIX Admin, some of the business of our end users has rubbed off over the past decade.

I was rather surprised at the drastic rating jump. I would have expected 1-10-20 instead of 1-25. People still would have yelled about the smaller jumps, but not as loudly. Same goes for events.

This is why I'm sitting down and waiting. Lets hear what LL will or will not do. It's getting to thier 3-month reeval of the situation anyway.

Well, the new continent was fun to explore while it lasted. Hiking with friends, being able to actually use the Supra I bought without crawling in first gear, being confident that my eyes won't cry out in pain as I entered sim after sim of unmolested nature and roads without ban lines jutting in to the centerline...

I bought new sim land, once. I've learned my lesson the hard way. Once in a while I go back to what's now sitting around my old plot, to remind myself now and again why settling in an unestablished sim is like playing Russian Roulette with a semi-auto.
