Forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere -- the search mechanism isn't good at finding posts buried in the middle of long threads, which is where I suspect this would be.
Has anyone set up a private events foundation yet, that members could contribute to? It seems to me it would be possible to set up Vertu-like kiosks, and a board of volunteers could handle funding requests. Heck, by now there might be more than one already, and I just don't know it.
I think I'd be willing to make contributions to such a foundation, though I'd prefer one that primarily funds artsy events or brainy challenges of some kind, as opposed to "sexy avatar contests" and the like. (Yes, I'm prejudiced. It's my money we're talking about, after all. Someone else can fund those other things, it's fine by me.) It's not that I have oodles of $L, but there does seem to be a ligitimate concern that hosting an event is a lot of work and people who put the work in should get some compensation-- and at the same time, we all know that people are unlikely to want to pay to go to the events (and some people can't afford to pay much). Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
neko

Our group, Awakening Avatars has been funding events for just over a year. Sponsored Events Program - New Members & Established SL'ers. Awakening Avatars can provide you resources, $500 L, publicity, organizational help, staff help, etc. for your events inWorld that we sponsor. (You do the event, not us). This helps experienced event people and those who are new to the fun SL world of event planning. More info at this link, and/or IM inWorld Awakening Avatars Information

I think this would be a good idea and would be willing to be a patron of such a group provided all group members could receive an accounting of where the money goes. I would not want this to turn into the United Way with more money spent on limos and hotels then the cause du jour.
Good topic!
